ExpatLife Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Hey there allI have been in SE Asia and mainly Thailand for 6 years now and have been to Laos before, however this up and coming trip that I MUST make coincides with Songkran, shudder.I really want to avoid actually travelling during this time for obvious reasons, so I am contemplating leaving earlier around maybe the 8th or 9th. My questions are; firstly what would be the best airline to use? I have gone to Laos once by air and once by road. By road it was hellish using public transport etc, and by air, well I did not feel especially safe on Nokair flights for some reason.Secondly, what would be the latest I could leave this journey as to avoid as much hassle as possible going and returning from Laos (I live a couple of hours South of Bangkok). Also would it be best to fly right on into Laos or fly to say Nonkai and then get in over the bridge to Vientiane?Cheers

ExpatLife Posted March 15, 2016 Author Posted March 15, 2016 where you travelling from and where you travelling to, and how long for I need to go and obtain a new Visa in Vientiane and travelling from Prachuap.

Either fly to Vientiane either with LAO Airline, Bangkok Air or Thai Airways. all from Suvarnabhumi. Prices differ largely. No flights to Nong Khai, just to Udon Thani. About 1h from there to the border. Thats what the very most border/visa runners do. Considerably cheaper. About 19 flights daily from Don Mueang with misc. airlines (Lion, NokAir, AirAsia). Four flights with Thai Smile AIr (offspring of Thai Airways) from Suvarnabhumi. Personally I would go with Thai Smile from Suvarnabhumi.
Jeremy50 Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Seriously, you can't work this out for yourself? Take the train. That's one of those long heavy things on rails.
