BANGKOK: -- A Thai academic said Thailand will be the hottest country in Asean this week and advised residents to avoid outdoor activities.

Jirapon Sinthunawa, a professor from the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies at Mahidol University, said that during March 17-19, Thailand will suffer from the hottest weather among all ASEAN countries.

This is due to a tropical air mass in the Pacific Ocean which is at its warmest in 50 years, he said.

I think he's a bit late with his dates; it's been 34 under shade and 39 outside the last two days at my place !

"Face melting weather" ? A good time for people to lose face and blame the weather.

All the pasty whites will be huddling in the malls.

I just came in from walking the dog and it was pretty hot out there but nothing out of the ordinary for this time of year. I suppose it makes for an interesting headline but I think most of us expect things to get hotter as we head into April. Who knows, maybe we will get some early storms this year.

Wear a hat!

If the wet comes early it would be a fillip that the country needs so desperately. Here's hoping.

I hope it's only a fillip and not another "fillup".

Dry wind is making a dust bowl of our area, parched grass and smoke butts

flicked from passing vehicles will only add to the discomfort,

we need the lows and highs to swap places,

Hub of hot weather.

45 degrees forecast for Nakhon Sawan. I've been in 45 degree weather before. It melts the asphalt in the streets. Dangerous. People are going to die.

Right now it's 33 celcius and 55% humidity inhouse here but i won't use aircon.

Some rain would be great though.

Have you tried the Phosphor method?

There is no reason why people shouldn't be doing outside activities, just keep drinking plenty of fluids. Urine should be clear, not yellow, and certainly not dark yellow/orange. It's a tropical country - deal with it.

I don't care what colour it is. I'm not drinking urine.

We used to call this a "Black Flag Day"

No running until 3 am. Seriously, Mojave Desert about 40 years ago would get much hotter than this. Black flag would go up at about noon. That meant we would be out running at 3 a.m. (nothing canceled...just moved to cooler hours). Try a 10k run on Monday morning at 3 a.m., after partying all weekend.

For those in the middle east.....you got it rougher than I ever had it !

'Pasty whites'... that is a very, very apt description... LOL cheesy.gif

I call them 'hemocytes' or Darkseekers' (from the movie 'I am Legend').

It has already hit 40 today in Nakhon Sawan, about 3 degrees above what that link says. Here is the one I got my information from. http://www.timeanddate.com/weather/thailand/nakhon-sawan

When I was working in Qatar, fire extinguishers would explode with the heat and they were always in the shade. Temperatures regularly hit 50C didnt stop the job though that went on the same. Thailand is less than 40C not so bad.

It's getting hotter here in Pattaya, my body trying to adjust , but I have to admit I need the aircon also during the daytime now. It's soon April, get used to it.
