ROCHESTER, NY: -- A court in New York state jailed a local man for over 22 years on Thursday for trying to recruit fighters to join ISIL in Syria.

The sentence handed down to Mufid Elfgeeh, 32, is the longest jail term yet for an American convicted of supporting the militant group.

In December, he admitted trying to recruit two people to join so-called Islamic State.

He was also originally charged with trying to kill US service members and unlawfully possessing firearms and silencers.

Beginning in 2013, the FBI paid two informants to help investigate Elfgeeh, according to court records.

The informants recorded conversations in which Elfgeeh talked about wanting to kill members of the US military and Shi’a Muslims in New York.

One of the informants eventually sold Elfgeeh firearms and ammunition.

Elfgeeh of Rochester tried to send the two individuals to Syria to fight on behalf of ISIL, buying them a laptop computer, a high-definition camera, an expedited passport and other travel documents, according to his plea agreement.

He used Facebook and WhatsApp to activate a network of ISIL sympathizers in Turkey, Syria and Yemen who could facilitate their trip, the plea agreement said.

Convictions for ISIL-related activity by Americans have become more frequent in recent months as more than 80 such cases brought by US prosecutors since 2013 work their way through federal courts.

This is yet another manufactured case, everything was facilitated / fabricated by the FBI and their informants.

This link contains an interesting read : https://theintercept.com/2015/02/26/fbi-manufacture-plots-terrorism-isis-grave-threats/

Google 'manufacturing terror', they do this all the time.

The guys they arrest are <deleted> who support terror but they're usually as 'dumb as stumps' and would get nowhere without extraordinary help from the government and its agents.

They do this when they have a specific agenda they want to move forward with but don't have the GP's support or don't want to get approval. Happens all the time. Happened with 911....I still remember Bush at some party after the invasion making a condescending comment as to "I know those weapons of mass destruction are around here somewhere" and laughing about it. It's a game to them but they are dead serious about carrying out so I recon something surrounding ISIL will happen when they decide to finally crumble the dollar. They'll need some fallback as an excuse to push their agenda forward. ISIL is perfect because it will scare people and therefore we must take your guns, we must separate the bad people from those that obey us, etc. etc. This isn't a new tactic. They do the same with peaceful demonstrations. They'll send in a few idiots to disrupt the events to make it look like the demonstrators were aggressive and out of line and then restrict how demonstrations are to be carried out. Everyone should get use to it as they have a few things they want to accomplish in the short term. I imagine Trump will be the first and then something having to do with ISIL in the next year or two. Who knows.

Only 22 years ?

These characters should be permanently removed not jailed at the taxpayers expense.

My thoughts as well , pull his plug and burn his remains on youtube might have some effect on fellow recruiters.

So basically the two people he tried to recruit were FBI paid for people, who sold HIM the fire arms and probably planted the idea of wanting to go to Syria but didnt know how. It is entrapment. As someone has already said he was likely as dumb as a stump but now some huge secret service win has been achieved in stopping someone recruiting on US soil. It is BS. It was a manufactured crime to fill a political aim and a statistic - FBI foils plot to recruit for ISIS. Go and catch the real bad guys - oh wait a minute, they work for you. coffee1.gif

Nice try, but do you think the guy didn't have contacts inside of ISIS? Do you think they just picked him at random? Do you think he didn't have an attorney or that the court wouldn't have found him guilty 'beyond a reasonable doubt'?
