A big thank you to the guy in Central World

On the off chance that the guy in TMB in Central World, with the North American accent, who tapped me on the shoulder and handed me the 4000 Baht I didn't know I'd just dropped, who then disappeared into the mall, is a Thai Visa member, thank you so very much.
I'm sorry didn't thank you properly, you disappeared before it really sunk in.
Thanks again.

Your Welcome, from all Thai Visa members. Every single one of us would have done the same thing. Right ?

yeah, Guess I would....Now big brother is watching us....in a shopping mall ? it would be on CCTV !

And by the way, 4 g's in not enough to change my life in a drastic way....!

I agreed with your decision but not your motives behind it.

But being the kind-hearted man I am and prepared to give anyone the benefit of ANY doubt, I will assume you wanted to make a joke out of it.

Same thing happened to me, without the TV component. Walked off the BTS and got a tap on the shoulder from Thai who handed over the 500 baht I just dropped.

Same same but different.

4000, wow, that's a lot of money to get back. To me, that's 5 nights with 5 different ladies... or 87 big bottles of Chang. Getting that back is something worth celebrating. Go out and treat yourself!

I'd expect nothing less from a fellow foreigner.

Had something similar happen to me waiting at check out at Friendship in Pattaya. I pulled out Baht 2000 and unknown to me also dumped a few more thousand baht notes on the floor. Tap on the shoulder and the guy behind me hands me the money and said something along the line of "you win the lottery." I had no idea what he was going on about 'til he explained what had happened.

And he was a fairly young Thai man. Not sure what a "fellow foreigner" means, but odd that some people think being foreign implies some special bond or that excluding Thais from the fellowship is somehow to be assume, but then this is Thai Visa.

I've had a similar experience with a Thai(though she wasn't as witty as your guy) but I think the OP mentioned he was a foreigner as a foreigner is more likely to post here and see it.

Saw a guy drop 1000 baht by the hamburger stand outside nana once. Was angling for it, but some young Thai kid (less than 10 yo) got in b4 me. Full credit to him.

How did you not reward him on the spot?? I was walking to work one day and heard some plastic rattle around on the pavement after a bus passed by. It was a new blackberry and the bus somehow just pushed it without crushing it. Strangely there was a drivers license next to it on the pavement. I contact the first number in the contacts and send a message saying if you know the owner of this device please tell him I have his phone and left him my number. He made arrangements to come by my office and pick it up. He said "Wow, thank you man, this is a new company phone and I would have been screwed if I lost it, do I owe you anything?" Being gracious I said "I don't know, do you?" He just said thanks again and walked away. If it was me picking up my lost phone I would have had a nice finders fee in my hand upon meeting. No good deed goes unpunished I guess. He had no connection to the drivers license so I mailed it to the address on the license and assumed it got to the owner as well with my business card attached. No, an email never came saying thanks or anything. I didn't do it for the rewards but it is nice to see kindness reciprocated in this world and would have been appreciated. What goes around comes around I suppose.

Some people are posting many videos about the same scenario where the money is deliberately dropped to find out how many people will do the honest thing and chase after the person and give the money to them verses how many people will be opportunistic and keep the money.

People are also posting videos where a bicycle is left unattended and sure enough the bike is stolen...but the thieves do not know there is an unseen rope tied to the bike so they get about 30 feet away and the rope turns tight and that ejects the thief off the bike...while some of the thieves are injured a little bit when they are suddenly thrown off the bike and hit the ground pretty hard......ha, ha, ha ...

Ahhhhh yes ........the ramifications of "Thug Life"

Cheers

Why do some people (i.e. you) expect a monetary reward for doing the right thing (...do I owe you anything?" Being gracious I said "I don't know, do you?")? Being gracious?

Really shows what sort of person you are. You weren't returning the items because you should, you were returning them in the hope that you be given some money. Disgusting behaviour.

I guess he forgot to thank him because of all the annoyance in the shopping malls and salespeople who yell to you. That would have been my reason.

Last month i drove motobike on the mainroad. I have to drive left (police there stopped me many times for that) and drove behind a songthew. I was annoyed by cars cutting me off all the time or just driving onto the mainroad and expecting me to stop for them. Then i saw a big thing standing on the back of the songthaew infront of me..I stayed behind it and then it dropped on the road. I avoided it and was more annoyed because of no respect for motorbikedrivers but than i noticed an Iphone, ID-card, make-up, wallet all rolling over the road.

When i finally passed the songthaew i wanted to tell them what happened but i didn't. Sure they can't speak english and also it was dangerous what they did, i could have crashed because of it.

Even in shops i sometimes forget to bring what i just purchased. It's because of the untrained personell who confuse me by the way they act against a farang. If they can't speak english than speak thai, no problem for me but they just start giggling and making fun because they can't.

Anyway, good the OP got his money returned. Take your lesson and put the big billiets away. That's also wise for when the police stops you and just searches your wallet without asking.

As I said in my OP, he walked away before what had happened had really sunk in, I was actually talking to the bank teller.

I did walk round the mall hoping to find him and thank him properly but I couldn't find him - but thanks for taking the time to ask why I didn't thank him on the spot.
