Attractive ladyboys are rarely found in the west. Just another fascinating aspect of life here.

True, perhaps. Asian features and a naturally slighter build makes their transition less problematic.

My observation is that transgender in the west has moved from being illegal to acceptable in the space of my lifetime, whereas it's been accepted a lot longer in SEA, as a consequence it was left until later in life to transition for western transgender. Hormone therapy, to be effective, needs to commence as close to puberty as possible, and as I understand it from my Thai friend they start as young as 12. Even in Thailand the availability of hormones was difficult, which is why many used contraceptive pills, but there it's now recognised as an international market and Thailand has become a renowned centre for procedures and therapy.

A Filipino transwoman I know has a specialist hormone treatment doctor, but even she came to Thailand for her surgical procedure.

One of the reasons why the Pattaya 'ladyboys' get so much bad press is their temperament, the hormonal imbalance is like being on a period, but it's all month long, not just a few days! It just takes one sight seeing tourist to ask the wrong question, or gawp at the bargirls to set them off, and I have no doubt that many of the incidents were provoked by some asshat saying or doing something inflammatory!
