Copy of passport

Featured Replies

As per this thread..

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/904199-metropolitan-police-chief-tells-foreigners-to-carry-passports-or-copies-at-all-times/

....I have decided to start carrying a physical copy of my passport (in addition to DL and photos of the passport on my phone). I have read earlier that some places can make credit card sized, laminated copies.

Can someone please point me in the right direction?

When I had pictures taken for the retirement extension the other week I think the shop had a sign saying they did them - the one on the left of the two next to Immigration in Jomtien.

Kodak shop across from Avenue on Second Road can do this for you. Don't remember the price, however.

I only make a photo with my smartphone. Should be enough.

I've always used the photo shop on 2nd Rd opposite Soi 7, can't remember the price as I've been getting them done at work recently.

Bit of advice, get them to scan your visa page as well as the main photo page, this can then be printed on the reverse side of the card.

my shop in naklua makes the laminated cards for 20 baht.

Hi letudraceh

I live in naklua so that would be convenient for me.

What is the name of shop or it`s exact location please.smile.png

Thats what I do, take a picture of visa also, there's as much chance of them accepting this as a "card"

the army will not accept the laminated copies, but if you do get one make sure your current visa is on the backside, other wise it means nothing

What's accepted or not seems (as usual in Thailand) very much up to the person you deal with so IMO it's better to have a copy since the cost and inconvenience is negligible. Thanks for the tip on the reverse side though.

How do you know this about the army ? whistling.gif

I had a copy made at the Kodak shop on Beach Road in Jomtien, I guess around Soi 6 or there abouts. I think the color copy was B70 and black/white 30.

The only place I can remember that refused my copy was the DTac service shop when attempting to register my SIM... however 7Eleven doesn't have a problem with copies when buying and registering SIMS.

You can buy the credit card iron-on laminate sheets (enough sheets for 10 years for 10 baht) at a stationary shop and do them yourself. Of course if you don't have an iron that'll cost an additional 500 baht or so, to buy the iron.biggrin.png .. and even more to buy a printer.

I have a copy of my visa extension on the flip side.

if the front page is not accepted, why should one bother about whats on the back page?

And here I thought I had to buy a laminating machine! As I have both a printer and an iron the missus now has a new task tomorrow

On a more serious note wouldn't one possibly be required to show (again, depending on the official asking) main page, visa/extension, TM7 card and entry stamp?

That's what I have photos of on my phone.

And I emailed myself a copy so in case all physical things are stolen, as long as I can get to a computer somewhere I can download the images. I previously saved them as a pdf file and put a password on the file. that is not the strongest security, but that at least keeps the low level crooks from getting my passport information

A more modern method would be storing important documents you may need access to encrypted on cloud storage.

I prefer Analog data storage myself for real impotent stuff. ( paper copy )

much safer in my opinion.

That's just me. wai2.gif

I hope the members here alert us if immigration start knocking on doors or stopping people in the street.
