Visa issue! the new METV

Featured Replies

So I read this ''you can only apply for the METV in a country of which you’re either a citizen or have legal residency. That means no more short trips from Thailand to Laos for a double-entry tourist visa''

So this means the visa runs to Laos to make visa is obsolete? (don't bother to google the word, it means out of date/ not usable) Or is this only applicable to the countries of the G7?

I am not from a G7 country, so I still can make a 90 days visa in Laos, as usual?

Any Visa guru's here know the answers?

The source I've read is from here:

If you are asking about single entry tourist visas, which allow a 60 day initial entry to Thailand then they are not "obsolete" and can be applied for by those who qualify.

If you want a 90 day visa you will need to be more specific (look that word up ! ) as to your needs and how you would qualify ie. Work, Retirement, Marriage etc.

Moved to the Visa forum.

i read you will need to show tickets and out for all entries on the metv. that basically leaves me with one entry visas from now on.

its just not worth the hassle. its easier to just visit a neighboring country until you can get a single entry visa.

It's in the link in the OP but is not a formal statement but someone's interpretation.

Flight Itinerary

Every embassy requires some sort of proof that you are traveling to Thailand via airplane but the specific details vary greatly on this one. Some offices vaguely say “flight itinerary” while others require the first flight into Thailand; some require both a flight entering and a flight exiting; others require flight itineraries for every time you enter and exit Thailand. None mention if bus or train travel is an acceptable method to depart from or enter into Thailand. Contact your home country’s embassy directly for more details.

People would be better advised to speak directly to the Thai Embassy/Consulate in their own country rather than relying on links such as contained in the OP.

Also, try using an honorary consulate in your home country rather than the embassy if you have that option. The honorary consulates can often relax the requirements somewhat compared to the embassy.

Ah yes, very good advice, as expected from Thai visa experts. Thank you!

i believe it was the washington dc thai embassy. also it had to be confirmed and paid tickets, not just an itenerary.

anyhow i dont at all recommend using that particular embassy, even for us citizens. they gave me the run around even for a regular 2 entry visa and i had demanded my passport returned. some irate lady kept calling my home at 6:00 am in the morning with all these questions.

i had to pay $100 to have my flight changed due to their delays, then demanded my passport back and re-applied to la and made my flight without having to exend again.

then sent it to the la embassy, no problems ever. dont use washington dc.

as someone else stated, it varies by where you apply, so you have to check again each time.

Not according to DC embassy website. http://thaiembdc.org/tourist-visa-category-tr-multiple-metv/

"4. A copy of flight confirmation/reservation , showing going from US to Thailand and leaving from Thailand (The name of the applicant must indicated clearly)"

The Los Angeles Consulate originally said this. Buy have since issued a Press Release that says it is not necessary. I will find out in June.
