March 21, 201610 yr 2 part question: We are travelling to Europe next month....They use a 4 pin number system in the ATM's......Most of our time will be in France.... Through a comedy of errors a few months back BofA replaced my ATM cards in error - issuing new pin numbers (6 digit) replacing my 4 digit ones....Basically everything that could have been done wrong they did.....It's virtually impossible to reset the pin numbers offshore..... I have read on some website's that you can use a 6 digit pin in Europe by just inputting the first 4 digits..... Does anyone know this to be true and have experience with this? I don't want to be left high and dry for cash there.... Other option - currency exchange..... I'm guessing this is what I will have to do....I am also thinking I can get a better exchange rate here in CM than I could once deplaning.... Who or what bank has the best exchange rate here? Thanks in advance for any advice.....

March 21, 201610 yr European ATMs accept six digit PIN numbers. France included? Mutiple websites say No.... Multiple websites are wrong. I've travelled extensively through Europe with a 6 digit PIN number on an Arabic bank's cards. Really, Europe leads the world in banking technology.

Being European I had no idea that Europe wasn't one country. However, ATMs in Europe all work in exactly the same way. Thank you for your input - it is as always indicative of your own inadequacies and no-one else's. Thanks for playing again.
March 21, 201610 yr Author Although coming from Thailand (not USA) I didn't want to complicate it further..... Might be out of sequence but PNB Paribas bank - the partner with BofA said no...... Edited March 21, 201610 yr by pgrahmm
March 21, 201610 yr Here's a discussion on this from people in Paris back in 2010.... https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187147-i14-k3604688-My_debit_cr_card_has_a_6_digit_pin_number-Paris_Ile_de_France.html No problem. This is an "urban myth". And so on... Really, it's up to you but it will work fine. It always has for me and everyone else. French ATMs do not come from the ark. They are quite capable of accepting a 6 digit PIN. Edited March 21, 201610 yr by TheSiemReaper
