Non-immigrant O visa (spouse with work permit)

Featured Replies

Hello all,

My husband (Indian citizen) recently started working in Bangkok with a non-immigrant B visa and work permit. I (British citizen) entered the country on a 30-day visa exemption and am now planning to go to Savannakhet to get a non-immigrant O visa. I am finding it difficult to get a clear list of exactly what documentation I need to provide - most of the search results online are relevant to O visas for those married to a Thai national. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

If his company needs to write a letter confirming his employment, would it need to be addressed to this particular embassy in Savannakhet? In which case, I'd be very grateful for the correct address as I understand from reading posts here that it has recently changed locations.

Also, our marriage certificate is from India, but written in English. Is that likely to be ok, or do I risk needing all kinds of notarized/translated versions?

Thanks very much for your help. These forums have been so useful to us.

You will need copies of his passport photo page and extension of stay stamp done by immigration.

If your original marriage certificate in English it will be accepted. You will need it and a copy.

You will not need anything from the company until you apply for an extension as your husbands dependent.

Please note.

Your husband must have an "extension of stay" before you can obtain an "O" visa or an extension based on being his dependent .

Hi ubonjoe and sunnyjim5, thanks a lot for replying. Yes, he does have the extension of stay.

I checked the VFS site for the visa document checklist if I was applying for this from within India, and it states "company's recent business certificate and relevant documents to confirm that the company is in active status"... 'relevant documents' seems a bit too vague to be helpful?!

Unless you are actually applying in India the VFS website is irrelevant.

You need what ubonjoe posted to obtain the visa in Vientiane or Penang.

The extension stamp verifies that at nearby locations and they are aware the it is prelude for you getting you own extension and leave it to immigration to verify things when it is applied for. Also the requirements to get any visa in India is more stringent than most other locations.

Ok, thanks both for the reassurance. A little more straightforward than I'd thought then!
