Hi,

I am sure that this topic has been covered before but I am limited on the amount of time I have to do a search,

I will be going to Pattaya very soon for a few weeks and would like to renew my Thai Driving Licenses, both for car and motorcycle have expired, I will be staying not to far from the DMV and was trying to avoid having to make the trip to immigration down in Jomptien if possible as I will be so close.

I have a blue house book with my name on it, do I still need to get a certificate of residency from immigration?

Are there any forms that I can download from the internet so that I can start to get them filled out before I arrive?

Both licenses probably expired for just over a year now as I have been busy at work.

I still have a valid UK license.

I will be arriving on a 30 day visa exempt stamp.

Understand from reading this forum that things are getting tighter with license checks so want to stay above the law and get this addressed as soon as I arrive so that I can get around without falling fowl.

Any constructive advice would be much appreciated.

You will likely need the residency form from immigration. Plus, if your licence has been expired for over one year you will likely have to do a theory test (plus the physical tests - colour / reaction). Under one year expired - no need for the theory test.

If only visa exempt, a five year licence is not possible.

If your name is in a blue book you have thai residency. To my knowledge you should not need a residency cert from the Immi dept.

As you licenses are over 12 months you most likely have to do the do the theory test.

The forms are the easy part and can be sorted in minutes at the LTD.

As you do not have a visa of any kind you will only be given temp licences (valid 2 years).

Due to theory test you can plan on being there the whole day to renew.
