Police investigators confront a group of students outside their vehicle March 18 in Phitsanulok province in a still image taken from a dashcam video of the incident.

PHITSANULOK — Three policemen were placed under criminal investigation yesterday for allegedly threatening a group of university students at gunpoint and beating them on the side of a road in Phitsanulok province.

The three officers, all provincial police investigators, were also sent to “inactive posts,” as they face legal prosecution, said Phitsanulok City Police Station commander Saranai Kongmuang.

Again dash cams to the rescue, once things are captured on them and put in the public domain the cops have to react. The cops who stalled the Mercedes investigation are facing charges, these too.. just hope it will be done. Cops are starting to worry now about getting filmed.

“We will not help them. We will be fair in this case,” Saranai said over telephone Thursday. “We are afraid that society will distrust us.”

Hmm might be too late for that

"Subin insists the incident was provoked by Chaithawat intentionally clipped his car, provoking his anger.

Subin phoned two more men – Cpt. Wutthipat and Lt. Cpt. Thanakarn – to join him, and together they beat the victims with their fists and a pistol, Chaithawat said. One female student was spared from the assault, but only because another student shielded her from the violence, Chaithawat said.

The three men eventually left the scene after a police patrol saw the incident and told them to stop, according to Chaithawat, who said the patrol officers made no effort to detain the assailants."

The cop yelling sounds mentally deranged - that there are such unhinged thugs roaming the streets with power and guns is terrifying.

Shouldn't that be, 'the three officers, all provincial police investigators, were also sent to “inactive posts,” until the media loses attention'??

We are living in a police state. Anyone wearing a uniform is all and powerful. People bow their heads as they pass, even those out wearing camouflage t-shirts are treated differently with more respect.

You don't understand. Those policemen were teaching these students a lesson. The students must be thankful to those three teachers.

What the policemen teached they? To buy a gun and shot the police if they want stop you?

I don't know what happend if there no other cars/motorbikes was driving? Missing students like in mexico?

I'm truly bewildered why the thai citizenry doesn't use social media to mount a real protest against the police...just a mass demonstration that not only brings to light the abuses of power that are condoned, but also sends a clear message that civil unrest could be a consequence is things aren't cleaned up...the military would certainly side with the public...so many of this country's problems could be solved so easily...fire any police officer deemed to be guilty of any crime...and fill the spots with men/women who wish to transition out of the military...

That's why the cam in my car is always on now. Social media is the only thing to motivate then to take action. Let's just hope that if P actually begins that single gateway for the internet that these incidences are not prevented from being shown to the world

Anybody can write the word "police" on his jacket.

Today i drove behind a helmetless motobikedriver who weared a vest "BigJo Police", guess he was from the motoexpo but he was far from there.

I even don't know who is real police, they also have many colors of uniforms and assistants. Also many cars have the red/blue alarmlights, even right next to the mainroads where they sell fruit they use those lights to get attention.

It's all just a big mess in BKK. I guess those guys who sit in tents along the roads are real police because i never see them doing anything, only sitting behind a screen.

Shows the mentality of these idiots, they really do believe they can do as they like.

Now come on....They may have paid a lot of dosh to become a pillar of society....whistling.gif

But we all know that they have paid lots for those positions... Now they have to go and sit in the corner earning nothing extra for a few months until this blows over.

It's their own fault that they paid to get their job. They believed in corruption and thought to earn it back the same way.

On the moto-expo i saw the new dashcams, they are very small these days or even totally hidden. Guess they block youtube soon.

Actually, yes, they do. It has only been the past couple of years with the widespread adoption of smartphones and now dashcams, plus the rise of social media, that these scum are finding that their actions are being videoed and posted on social media. They have yet to figure out how to combat this.

No doubt they will follow the lead of the US police and assault and arrest those taking the photos/videos of their wrong doing.

Just saw the Manager and News.mthai online. The Commissioner of Provincial Police Region 6, Police Lieutenant General Chonsit Watthanawarangkun, has announced the 3 police officers involved have been dismissed from the force and have been charged under five counts...viz...attempted murder, illegal detention, coercion, physical assault and carrying a gun in a public place without a valid reason. This was after a delegation of 50 students from Phibun Ratchapat Institute in Phisanuloke had travelled and submitted a letter to him in person asking for justice in the case.
Mr Chaithawat Thamrongsakkhun, a third year student at the college and owner of the car in question who was shot at and pistol whipped, said he was satisfied with the decision to dismiss the officers and hoped the officers would be prosecuted according to the law.
Professor Phimon Kasemsaoaphak, vice dean for humanities and social sciences at the college, who accompanied the students today during their meeting with the police, stated that he was satisfied with the police investigation and was confident that they would be prosecuted according to the law.
Looks like these officers picked on the wrong people here although whether this all goes quiet later on and is brushed under the carpet remains to be seen.
