: :o Hi , was wondering if any one travelling from Australia could answe this question for me. My daughtr and her friends are travelling to Bangkok in Nov. They arrive in Bangkok at around 6.00am and need to then travel to Phuket. Their plane leaves at around 8.30am. The travel agent has told them they do not have to collect their luggage or go through customs, that this will just be loaded onto the next plane. This seems strange to me as a concerned mum. Even more strange is that on their itinerary it states that they do need to check in for their flight to Phuket, which suggests to me, and I have travelled a bit, that their luggage will need to be with them. ???

Phuket is an international airport and does have customs there.

As for the checking in, probably they need to check in for seat assignments. I have done that when I have travelled on a second carrier that does not have an agreement with the first carrier to book seats.

As sbk states they will need to check in if the Bangkok -Phuket carrier does not have an agreement with the Oz-Thailand carrier.

I know if i travel from Thailand to the UK via Amsterdam with the same carrier throughout i.e KLM then i get checked straight through at Thai checkin (i.e i dont check in at Amsterdam).......whereas if i do the same route using Eva Air then i need to check in again in Amsterdam for the onward flight to the UK...........basically because KLM operate both the Amsterdam to Uk flight and the main Bangkok Amsterdam leg.

However in the both the above cases my luggage is checked all the way through regardless of if i need to checkin again in Amsterdam or not.

I can't see any reason why your daughters luggage shouldn't go straight through to Phuket.......even if they need to checkin again in Bangkok.

What airlines is she flying on? If you supply that information, then you might get better quality responses which are targeted to your daughter's specific case.

When your Daughter checks in at the airport in Aust. makes sure she tells the lady/bloke at the check in counter that she is flying through to Phuket via Bangkok, chances are it is on the same ticket anyway but this will then check the luggage all the way through to Phuket. There will be no need to exit via immigration, collect the luggage then re-check it. She will transit in Bangkok and fly on to Phuket.

She will perhaps have to find a transit desk inside the terminal to get a boarding pass for the next leg if it is not issued in Aust., but this will be easily done.

There is nothing to worry about :D

Wish her a happy and safe holiday from all of us at thaivisa.com

:o well for us it is, but your daughter will be very well behaved I am sure. :D

Personally, if her final destination is Phuket on her ticket then there will be no need for her to collect her luggage at Bangkok. She will just walk through the transit area and find her onward flight carriers' desk where she will need to check in purely to obtain her boarding pass. Her luggage will automatically be loaded onto her onward flight.
