Hello,

I have a Non-O multi-entry visa based on family (my wife is Thai). We are leaving Thailand for Japan in roughly 2 months and then the USA however my entry stamp ends on the 27th of this month. With that in mind, I believe that immigration has given her misinformation however I want to verify with you, the community, as you tend to be more knowledgeable than immigration staff (sad but true).

They said I can extend online, I told her that's only for Non-O single entry. Can I extend online? really?

I told her my first report if I even could extend online must be in person but this type of reporting isn't for multi-entry. Am I correct?
She said that I can only extend 15 days out from my expiration. This one I'm not sure about so I thought I'd ask.

I simply want to extend but reporting, as far as I understand, is free but it can't be done from a multi-entry non-o. Can anyone please clarify before I go through the trouble? Much appreciated!!!

If you have a multi entry non 'O' visa ......

  • You do not need to make 90 day reports.
  • It can't be extended online.
  • When you re-enter after your trip you will be granted a new 90 day stay IF the visa is still valid. The visa expires on the 'enter before' date printed on the visa.
  • You can apply for a 1 year extension of stay at an immigration office based on marriage within the last 30 (45 at some offices) days of any 90 day stay.
  • You can apply for a 60 day extension of stay at an immigration office based on marriage within the last couple of weeks (maybe longer) of any 90 day stay.

You cannot "extend" on line.

What do you have exactly a single entry visa or a multiple entry visa ?

You can apply for a extension of stay at your local immigration office. Ask the what they require for the extension in addition to the 400K Bht in a Thai bank ( or a certified income of 40K Bht/moth)

That's understood. So far this multi-entry has been beneficial as I travel often for work and went 10 places last year. However, in this one time it seems t his time it's less beneficial. I very much appreciate the information. Thank you!

Two choice it seems:

1. Exit and return for a new 90 day stay (should cover full time required. No contact with immigration office.

2. Extend 60 days to visit wife at immigration (wife/proof of marriage required) but 60 days may not cover full time required?

If you intend staying in country beyond the 27th you must either apply for an extension or do a border run for a new 90 day stamp.

I will leave in 33 days after my expiration date, so I will just do an extension. All of this information is appreciated and reaffirms what I thought. Also....

Thai immigration doesn't know what they're talking about!

2.24 In the case of visiting a spouse or children who are of Thai nationality:
Permission shall be granted for one time and no more than 60 days.

(1) There must be proof of relationship.
(2) In the case of spouse, the relationship must be de jure and de facto.

Ive been informed that Immigration is not happy with me entering on a 12 month 90 day Multi Entry Visa, Because I am Married and have a house and family they request I get a Non O single entry visa then extend it. This is OK but i go back to the UK to work every 3 months regardless.

What implications on leaving Thailand and Re-Entry if I do this

Please advise

Were you told this by an immigration officer ?

Using a multi-entry visa as you describe is entirely legal.

If you get a one year extension of stay you will need a re-entry permit to protect your permission of stay if travelling outside the country.

Who told you that at immigration. Nothing wrong with using your visa as you are doing it. Many others are using them to stay here by doing border hops every 90 days.

If you want to apply for the extension based upon marriage you can apply for it during the last 30 days of any of the 90 day entries from your visa. You don't have to get a single entry visa to do it.

If you get the extension there would be no problem to get a multiple re-entry permit and then leaving and re-entering as many times as you want to.

  • Who informed you this?
  • If you changed to a 1 year extension of stay, a multiple entry re-entry permit would cost 3,800 baht and allow you to come and go as often as you want.

Appears issue at Korat from previous post and that they fined wife 800 baht for not reporting his presence - and this is keyed to that issue/yellow book.

Now when my wife informed immigration that I had exited Thailand they said I am NOT to come back on a 12 month Multi Entry Visa or I lose "Yellow Book" status ????

I have to get a Single Entry 'O' Marriage Visa and if I wish to extend it I can, however I am in and out within 3 months anyway so its more difficult.

Yes ! But why would the wife have need to inform immigration of anything ?

I would guess a mass (mess?) of 'misunderstanding" has occurred aided by the wife smile.png

Just as a hotel must - if a foreigner stays it must be reported. Most wives I suspect do not and are not fined - but he was asking immigration for a favor (to obtain yellow book) so best to have ducks in a row.

"Now when my wife informed immigration that I had exited Thailand "

There is no such requirement !

TM30 forms can also be posted .

In fairness, the whole TM-30 thing is pretty senseless. It is not surprising that the typical visitor and his Thai girlfriend are unaware that they need to report that he made it safely from the airport to the address written on his entry form. I just hope they do not start enforcing that other rule still on the books that you must report your own address (in theory even if staying in a hotel) on arrival in the country and each time you travel to a new province, remaining 24 hours. Can you imagine the queues at CW then!

We applied for Yellow Book part of that process was to go to the local immigration to check im upstanding and not overstaying. It was here they fined my wife 800B because she didnt inform them i was staying in my house !!

They advised me to enter on a single entry O visa and extend it at their office. Im OK with this but How do I exit then re-enter after 3 months back in the UK.

seems the 12Month Multi entry was better for me, but they said I would lose Yellow Book ( not a big issue )
