Defense Min ensures security preparedness before Songkran

BANGKOK, 6 April 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Defense has met with related agencies on preparations for the upcoming Songkran celebrations at Wat Pathum Wanaram in downtown Bangkok.

Gen Putchapong Pongsiri, head of coordination of the Defense Ministry’s center for solving security problems, joined other officials from the Ministry of Interior, the Department of Cultural Promotion, the police, the military and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration at a security meeting ahead of the Songkran Festival.

The objective of their discussion was to ready security personnel for duties in and around Wat Pathum Wanaram on Rama I Road in Pathumwan district during the Songkran festivities scheduled for this April 13. Together, they went over all security measures, which will be implemented for the safety and convenience of both revelers and passersby.

Within the event, there will be merit making, bathing of the principal Buddha image of Wat Pathum Wanaram and the traditional ceremony of pouring water on elders, who will include the Thai Culture Minister and foreign diplomats.
