Secured a Non-B, now how about the Teachers Waiver

Featured Replies

This is my dilemma. Last year I worked for a language school so a teachers license was not required. This year, after the Non-B is secured from a neighboring country, my school wants to send me to Bangkok with the paperwork to get my Teachers Waiver from the Teachers Council of Thailand. From what I have read on other threads, it is really the schools responsibility to get the Teachers Waiver, then we take that to the Department of Labor to get the work permit. The reason I mention the waiver and not a 'teachers license' is that my degree is in Business Marketing and not Education. Can someone shed some light on this for me? Have you gone through this process? Thanks

Yes..in my experience the school always delivered that to me and then I took it to get WP. I then made a copy and gave the original back to the school to keep.

When working in basic education schools, schools that fall under the OBEC, teachers must hold a teacher license or provisional teaching permit. Holding either document is required for both Immigration when applying for an extension of stay and for Labour when applying for a work permit. It's the job of the school to apply for the provisional teaching permit, however, the teacher has to sign all personal documents as being true copies and has to sign the application form KS.10.

Side way question

Can a teacher be registered as volunteer?

And if so without Non.B but say Non O-A?

Can a Non-B piggy back family members extensions or visa's?

Thank you in advance

"Can a Non-B piggy back family members extensions or visa's?" = Yes

Most Government schools don't consider it their responsibility to get the Teaching Waiver from the TCT. They have to provide you with the letter, there are at least two, and usually a copy of the employment contract as well as a letter from the area's educational office.

If you take it in person, the greeting office will give you an oral approval on the spot and mail said waiver directly to the school within a week.

It's not a big deal other than a lot of time in traffic etc., usually approved if you have said papers in order.

Yes, a teacher can be registered as a volunteer. In that case no teaching license or waiver is required according to the rules of the teachers council, but you still need a work permit. On a O-A visa a work permit is not likely to be issued.

(A volunteer would normally enter the country on a non-O visa).

There might be a problem at some immigration offices, as immigration rules do not allow for an extension of stay based on volunteering for a government entity, like a government school. Some immigration offices might overlook this, others will not. A way around this for volunteers at government schools is to get a waiver for the teaching license and get an extension as a regular teacher, for which there is no minimum income requirement.

The visa cannot piggy back family members, an extension of stay from immigration can.

I am extremely grateful for all you replies...thanks a lot.
