2025 SSA Form 7162 - "Hello, are you dead yet?" forms.
I’ll never forget my SSA letter last year. We had heavy rain the week before and the day it arrived. The letter got wet in the mailbox. The barcode got smudged. So I called SS to report it. The agent assured me it was OK, just fill it in, include a note about the bar code smudge. So I sent it back. Three month later, I got a “last chance letter”, since I failed to return the first one. Always check your bar code for smudges. -

Report Drones and Phones: QCPD Modernises Policing with Tech
Photo courtesy of Manila Bulletin In a move to bolster policing capabilities, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has distributed drones and mobile phones to its stations and field units. This initiative forms part of the Philippine National Police's (PNP) Modernization Program. Under the leadership of Police Colonel Randy Glenn Silvio, the QCPD's Officer-in-Charge, the department turned over 17 drones and 32 mobile phones with SIM cards to 16 police stations and the District Mobile Force Battalion. The drones are set to enhance patrol operations by providing aerial surveillance, which will significantly improve situational awareness. Their deployment is expected to be instrumental in police operations, emergency responses, and monitoring crowds during large events. To ensure that the officers can effectively and responsibly use these drones, the QCPD will conduct a Tactical Drone Operators Training from 4 to 8 August. This five-day programme aims to equip officers with the necessary skills for optimal drone use. Additionally, the mobile phones are intended to enhance real-time communication and monitoring capabilities among patrollers. This technological upgrade is designed to boost coordination, ensuring faster responses to incidents. “This initiative is a clear testament to QCPD's efforts to deliver innovative, efficient, and responsible services for a more prompt and effective response to the needs of the public,” Silvio stated. The introduction of these technologies is expected to transform how the QCPD operates, aiming for a more modern and proactive approach to police work. By integrating advanced tools into daily operations, the police force hopes to improve its efficiency and responsiveness to community needs. While the drones will give officers a bird's-eye view of their terrain, enabling better planning and execution of their duties, the phones will keep them connected, ensuring swift communication across different units. In the broader context, this initiative reflects a growing trend in law enforcement agencies worldwide embracing technology to improve public safety. From drone patrols to mobile connectivity, the integration of these tools marks a significant step towards modernised policing. This development in the QCPD represents an investment in technology aimed at increasing public safety and operational efficiency. It is expected to set a precedent for other districts, potentially leading to widespread adoption across the country. The total cost of the equipment, although not disclosed in exact figures, indicates a significant financial commitment, demonstrating the PNP's dedication to advancing its technological capabilities. Financial estimates suggest that such equipment and training could amount to several million pesos. By leveraging technology, the QCPD aims to meet the challenges of modern policing, thereby reinforcing their mission to provide innovative and effective law enforcement services to the community. This initiative not only addresses current needs but also prepares the police force for future challenges in maintaining public safety. Adapted by ASEAN Now from Manila Bulletin 2025-08-01 -
