Red Sea bridge to be built linking Egypt and Saudi Arabia

post-247607-0-54793600-1460156712_thumb.

Saudi Arabia and Egypt have announced a bridge is to be built across the Red Sea linking the two countries – as well as the continents of Africa and Asia.

King Salman of Saudi hailed it as a “historic move” that would boost trade between the two allies after meeting Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo.

No estimate was given for the cost of the bridge, which is to be named after the Saudi king.

Riyadh has helped bankroll Cairo since the Muslim Brotherhood was ousted from power in 2013.

Several other agreements were signed too, in areas such as education, trade and shipping.

It’s hoped the bridge will boost tourism, improving access for pilgrims visiting Saudi’s holy sites.

It may also help bridge differences between the two countries. Strains have appeared over foreign policy – with Egypt adopting a less hardline stance than Saudi towards Syria’s government – and Riyadh seeking more support from Cairo for its war against rebels in Yemen.

PBY Catalina wreck

PBY Catalina, Saudi Arabia.
In 1960, Thomas Kendall, his family, and a photographer from Life magazine set off on a round the world pleasure trip in this Catalina.
On 22nd March they touched down in the Gulf of Aqaba.
The following day they were attacked with automatic gun fire from a headland nearby by local people who had mistaken them for Israeli commandos.
Mr Kendall and his secretary were injured. After interrogation in Jeddah they were all released.

Good place to set up a Bar and Hotel on the other side because you can be sure you will be busy on the weekend. Like to Bahrain, this bridge will be lined up car to car from the Saudis looking for a legal cool one. They don't much care if they have to pay double price for a beer either.

The Bahrain-Qatar Causeway never got done. We'll see how this one goes.

Am I correct in saying the Saudis objected to that one....something about not being able to control their citizens travel to Qatar.....may be wrong, but remember seeing something along those lines.

Dunno. Be nice if they controlled them from traveling to Bahrain.

You can drink alcohol legally in the hotels in Qatar and also Bahrain. You can't in Saudi Arabia. So having one Causeway from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain should be enough. But they don't have easy access to this from the West Side of Saudi Arabia. So you can be sure that this Causeway will be built. Especially when the Saudi Kings says it is so. So when the Saudi Kings says it is so, it will be so.

I doubt that. Fights from the Eastern Province to either Qatar or U.A.E. are plentiful and cheap and less than an hours flight time. Coming from the Gulf States they also don't need Visas either. So they have no laws in place now to control;them from that.

Personally, I just think it is because they realized that they don't really need this Causeway. Bahrain is a great getaway for the Saudis so why would they want to travel further to Qatar for a beer? Would you? In Qatar they can drink already and if you have ever been to Bahrain you would know there really is't too much to see to make you travel there from Qatar,

Besides this I doubt Bahrain would want this Causeway to Qatar as they stand to lose Saudi Business. Saudi Tourism is important to Bahrain and if you ever paid for a Beer there you would know why. So Economically, it just doesn't make sense to build this. But it does to Egypt,

Won't argue with that. +1.
