BANGKOK: -- The Royal Thai Police has banned the import and distribution of the November 2015 edition of the French magazine, Marie Claire, after it ran an article that contained libelous remarks about the Royal Family.

The ban signed by Royal Thai Police commissioner Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda on March 16 was published in the Royal Gazette on April 8 but made public on the Office of the Prime Minister’s Ratchakitcha website yesterday.

Under Order No 156/2559, the police commissioner said the November 2015 French edition of Marie Claire published an article that contained content that “insults, defames or threatens His Majesty the King, Her Majesty the Queen, the Heir Apparent or the Regent.”

Such libellous contents are a threat to national security, peace and order, morality and ethics of the people, he said.

He stated that import, sale and distribution of the magazine is hereby forbidden under Article 10 of the 2007 Printing and Publishing Act, and ordered that the copies of edition in the country be confiscated and destroyed.
