More passengers using interprovincial public vans are expected to increase after the government launched measures to stimulate tourism during the Thai New Year period this year.More northeast-bound passengers are expected from 11-12 April. Tickets to northeastern provinces will not be sold in advance and no vans will be added.Military officers are deployed at the van stations to facilitate and provide security for the public.-- NNT 2016-04-

Bluespunk
Popular or basically the only affordable option.Have you ever seen how many BMWs and Mercedes there are in Bangkok? Yeah right, they're the transport option of the majority of the population. Just use the vans to save on washing them, eh? Or maybe it's just nostalgia and tradition, do you think? Smiley Face
I think the government encourages use of these vans to stimulate efforts to curb overpopulation. These death-traps-on-wheels do a fine job of keeping the population in check.
ezzra
Knowing how fast and reckless those van drivers are going and the countless fatalities and injuries have been attributed to van's road accidents, I just wish and hope that this year the number of dead and injured will be kept to the minimum and that Songkran will not mean grief to too many people.....
