I am US citizen with visa exempt status for VN heading to Bkk in June from HCMC. I will be getting a 60 day TV in HCMC the extending it for 30 days once I'm there. I would like to do this as long as I enjoy Thailand. HCMC Thai embassy is requiring a forwarding ticket now and looks like the cheapest option would be to get plane ticket back to HCMC at around $30 with obviously no Visa cost needed for VN.

Question is, would getting another 60 day TV in three months be an issue in HCMC or any other neighboring embassies for that matter?

I'm guessing three times at the same embassy would be pushing it.

Anyone that has specifically gotten this done in HCMC or neighboring countries can give some confirmation?

Thank you.

One in HCMC, one in Hanoi and three in Penang (no Malaysia visa necessary) would be no problem for sure. You could also get three in Vientiane (fly to Udon, cross at Nong Khai, Laos visa needed). Unless rules change, you should be able to make this work for 18 months or so.

Thanks for the reply. I am not following your reply. Is it possible to get consecutive 60 days in HCMC or the others you just mentioned?

I am unsure how HCMC would react to back-to-back tourist visas from them. They seem stricter than some of the other consulates in the region. If planning to do this, I would ask them in advance if there will be a problem. I was telling you which locations, and how many, you were safe assuming would give you SETVs based on current rules.

I see. Thanks for the clarification!

Embassies and Consulates often have limits (unpublished) on back to back visas especially at locations close to Thailand. So should HCMC apply a limit you can apply elsewhere. Staying long term using SETV's is becoming harder.

"Staying long term using SETV's is becoming harder."

That's what it seems like but at this point, doing successful consecutive visa runs to stay long term is really not an issue... correct?

As long as you can get a valid visa to enter you should have no problems staying long term.

There is no overall limit on the number of SETV's you can have, and at this point in time Immigration cannot, and should not, deny entry based on the number of past tourist visa entries or the amount of time stayed using these visas.

But ! Immigration can deny entry based on a suspicion of illegal working or having insufficient funds.

let me know about your consecutive visa in HCMC. I got one there about a year or so ago, and will try to get another one from them. It won't be back 2 back, but it will be my 2nd. And I have heard they're picky and strict. If you have a problem, go to Laos or Penang... even Cambodia (short bus ride from HCMC)

Yeah, I will probably call soon to ask them is this is possible. The problem is they want a exit ticket out and I really dont know my plans, but buying one for HCMC would be my cheapest bet. Hopefully I can do that so I can stay my total 6 months before I do a typical bus visa run from Bkk.

Before doing bus visa runs, it is worth checking Expedia for combined flight+hotel deals to Penang. This represents your total cost, excluding 180 MYR (about 1,600 baht) for the Thai visa including agent fee. You can choose an appropriate level of hotel (Chulia Mansion is good). The bus visa runs to Laos mean you need a Laos visa. The cost is not as low as people often imagine, and I find such trips miserable.

So.... I got the OK for another 1 TV in HCM in three months. The attendant did take my passport and looked it over with a fine tooth comb and possibly since I hadn't had many entries but one previous visa exemption into Bkk before, that's why I got the OK. She could not confirm if another would be accepted.

My next question is, I just booked my ticket for June 1st arriving at 5:30 PM. With my planned 90 days (60 day TV + 30 day extension) What day is safe to get a return flight? I want to get one for Tuesday Aug. 30th leaving Bkk at 8 AM. That's exactly 90 days...is this ok??

Any asap help would be appreciated as I am looking to buy before I submit my application.

Thanks!

June 1st would be day 1 making day 90 the 29th Aug. You need to leave on or before the 29th.

OK. I did a date calculator and got Aug. 30th being the 90th day but I guess it calculated wrong?

it calculates how many days FROM june 1. try june 1 to june 2 on your calculator and youll get an answer of 1 day altho you have been in the country ON 2 distinct days!
