"Don't fill our bottles with bad water!" - Thais tell Cambodians at border

ARANYAPRATHET:-- Some 100,000 litres of bottled water are going across the border to Cambodia at Aranyaprathet every day for Thailand's neighbours to celebrate Songkran.

A severe water shortage is being blamed for the water travelling across from Rong Klua market to Poi Pet, reports Thairath.

But Thai authorities have also complained to their Cambodian counterparts that thousands of empty bottles in packs are also being transported across - to be filled with local water by unscrupulous traders in Poi Pet market.

They are concerned about the cleanliness of the Cambodian water passed off as Thai.

Thai officials said that many Cambodians do not use a great deal of water to celebrate their version of Songkran and bottled water is desired.

Authorities manning the border have seen huge quantities of bottled water and tanks of water crossing in cars and two wheel carts piled as high as lorries.

Cambodian officials, in a spirit of new year friendliness told the Thai authorities they would check up on what was happening to the empty bottles carried across to Poi Pet.

I just laughed so hard I think I may have peed a little.

So if it wasn't new year the Cambodians wouldn't be bothered about what use the empty bottles were being put to ?

A bit like LoS' road safety concerns, only at Songkran and at international New Year

Thai bottled water is, of course, completely different from Cambodian bottled water as it is purified with Thainess not Khmerness.

I would have thought that Cambodian water would have been more pure tho...

You know, cos those Khmer don't use water, they don't wash.. :)

Stinky barbarians and all that..

Songkran, and the subject of water...especially drinking water, I have just returned from Makro in KK, at 9am it was very busy as expected but the amount of bottled water was going out by the truck load, many of the pickups in the parking lot had Korat plates. Earlier in the week some TV member mentioned the water shortage in that city. After reading of the dire shortage in reserve nationally, and if the rains are not adequate, I can see big problems ahead as the actual Planet is water scarce. I am glad that I had the foresight to have an artesian well drilled years ago, at 52 metres the water is crystal clear, and although I've yet to have it tested for impurities I drink it. It is well protected as my BIL has an automatic handgun, and wifes uncle is the Puu Yai Baan has a 12 bore, anyone that thinks all this, is a little "OTT" the villagers in Mahasarakarm are a bunch of thieves.

Well I just crossed the Cambodian/Vietnamese border at Phom Den.Near the border saw warehouses full of Vietnamese drinking water.Cheaper too:1.5 liter bottle only 1000 riel compared to the standard 2000 to 2500 riel for Cambodian water

It sounds as though you're suggesting that Thai bottled water is dirty. I wonder what you drink?

Especially, that crystal clear H20 with the symbolic green tinge omitting from most water machines parked outside apartment complexes masquarading as pure nectar full of goodness.

Clearly not but he will happily see people who, out of desperation, try to take some shot.
