I think it’s about time I upgraded my 3BB router as it is showing signs of age.

I am assuming that any new router will give me better Wi-Fi signal strength and will be better able to cope with 3 or 4 devices connected to it.

I read somewhere on this forum before that you can get routers which will download torrents, meaning there is no need to leave the main PC running all day.

Can anybody recommend any reasonably priced routers that will do this.

You need to provide more info.

I assume you are on ADSL, so do you intend to by a Modem/Router, or just a Router plugged into the 3BB device?

For torrents, I haven't used it, but I'm fairly certain you can do this on DD-WRT although you'll obviously need to buy an appropriate storage device.

What is your budget?

Yes to ADSL and Yes to Modem/Router.

Budget: hopefully less than 2000 Bht but could go more if I thought there would be benefits from the upgrade.

Also look a router that supports wireless 802.11ac . AC is faster than the older b/g and n wifi standards.

If you're standing next to the router, yes.

If you have 11ac equipment at both ends of the connection and no interference, yes.

It might be worth you looking at the "Seedbox" route for torrent downloading.

I've never really understood the value of this. I can max out my connection with torrents, and you have to download the stuff eventually anyway, so what is the point of staging it somewhere else before downloading it?

Not that I use a torrent client on my router, but it sounds like a perfectly sensible solution if you don't want to leave your PC on all the time.

Can you elaborate?

I can't really speak for what's available locally for you, but you probably need to go around a few computer shops, and tell them you want an 802.11ac modem/router (which will need an 802.11ac adapter at the other end to work at 11ac speeds).

Then check that it's on this list:

https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices

Then you just google how to install DD-WRT and flash it.

You can get your modem settings from the existing device.

I would think you might have to spend up to Bt3000or more but you can find that out when you shop.
