Tourist police ready to provide safety for tourists during Songkran festival

BANGKOK, 14 April 2016 (NNT) - Tourist police commander Pol Lt Gen Surachet Hakpal said 35 branches of the tourist police throughout Thailand have been prepared to ensure the safety for tourists during Songkran celebrations.

The tourist police have mobilized all regional branches to serve tourists during the busy holiday and to ensure travelers of confidence while in Thailand.

The tourist police commander said he has deployed a team of police officers to monitor tourist sites and other venues where the Songkran festival is being held.

The tourist police have prepared interpreters who speak seven languages such as English, Chinese and Russian to communicate with tourists.

Tourists can contact the tourist police with the use of a new Tourist BuddyiPhone app or call Hotline 1155.

Perhaps if they dressed in even more tactical gear, especially the foreigners, they could answer their phone from time to time or help more tourists in need instead of referring them to the real police.

It would be nice if they kept the all especially speeding motorcycles of "The Cowboy" after 18:00 like the sign at each end states !!

They even have a Policeman/Security Guard or whatever sitting on his ass at the Soi 23 end !!

I wonder how may Thai can speak Thai, Chinese, Russian and English. Probably only one, if any.

If there were they certainly have no time for the Thai songkran tourist police.

Meanwhile I hope they make things safer, it is really needed.

Great! What about the other 364 days of the year. Sorry, how much is Thailand's economy is based on Tourist?

Here's a novel Idea, how about police carry the simple language translator function on phones. They can buy new guns and vehicles and every Thai knows how to use a phone, so, what's the holdup. I know they don't want us here only leave your money here.

...oh...okay....

Yep in Pattaya the tourist police have negotiated with the thugs on the beach and the regular police and they have a .......................

Jetski scam amnesty for the songkran period.......................probably a little difficult to frog march the victims to the atm or assault them on the beach because of all the crowds!

Normal service will be resumed on Monday for those wishing to be ripped off as part of their Thainess holiday package!

From some of the tourists that I have seen- expat residents and Thais need protection from them. They look as if they are vagrants- drunken and disheveled. It's no wonder that Thai people think all foreigners are crazy and treat them with disgust.

Whatever happened to the tourist courts?

The proud motto of the Tourist Police is "Don't just do something, sit there!"

Why did this make me laugh?

Yes your right and it would be nice if they were on "Songkran footing" year around. You noticed to that they seldom answer the phone. They are like one of those German coo-coo clocks they pop out and chime on the hour and then disappear.

Why did this make me laugh?

Simple answer its the truth. Sad answer its no longer funny.
