30 day stamp less than 30 days?

Featured Replies

I was stamped in on March 19 but the second date on the stamp (exit by?) appears to be April 17. Can the visa be for less than the 30 days? Part of the stamp is missing so I cannot read what comes before the second date. Any help would be appreciated.

13 days in March + 17 days in April = 30

The day of entry/exit are always counted in total.

Seems OK.

The day of arrival counts as Day 1.

The stamp is correct. The 17th is 30 days from your date of entry that includes the date of entry when the days are counted.

So you get about 29 days, give or take, depending on your flight times in and out.

Well, yes, I suppose that 30 days is "about: 29 days"

You can leave on or before the 17th, but must leave before midnight on the 17th (day 30).

Let me clear up the confusion. Your allowed stay will always be somewhere between 29 and 30 days. If you are stamped just before midnight, it will be 29 days. It will always be under 30 days.

You are always granted permission to stay for 30 days. How many hours/minutes you are in the country on day 1 or 30 affects nothing.

There is always a way to add some confusion.

Arrive at 00:05h and depart at 23:55h and you have 43190 minutes out of a maximum of 43200 minutes biggrin.png

43200 / 24 / 60 = 30 days !

Practical example:

Flight BA 9, arriving May 1st, 09:40h.

You will get stamp until May 30th. (doesn't that look like "30 days"?)

BA 10, departing May 30th, 18:25h.

Result: 29 days, 8 hours, 45 minutes and 0 seconds biggrin.png

And be theory (counted in minutes) the duration could vary between:

28 days and 2 minutes to 29 days, 23 hours, 58 minutes.

As I said, you will always get UNDER 30 days. Best to state it as an average of 29 1/2 days...

Yep, in time span always less than 30 days.

And the practical example is what many will get.

Plane arriving earlier in the day than departing.

Some hours turnaround time.

And again in practical terms:

On date of arrival traveling to your final destination.

On date of departure traveling back to airport.

More or less lost days.

It means in the real world you get to stay in Thailand for 29 nights and not 30 nights that's it really.

Well , you do get 30 nights, the other night is divided up between half the night on the first day and half a night on the last day

Not quite. If you don't get 29, you'll manage 28 1/2 nights if you arrive late.

Well, anyway, it is called a 30 day visa and NOT a 30 night visa

Thanks. Looks like I'm out of here tomorrow. Already booked my flight back to Cambodia. I've been in and out of Thailand for the past three years but this has been my first Songkran. You may say many things about it both negative and positive but there's one thing you have to admit. Being in the midst of hundreds of revelers – the full-on water fights, the pounding music, the zany costumes, the singing & wild dancing in the streets, the smiles and laughter all around – if that's not sanook well it's time to hang up them hip-hop high tops.
