Hello, I have not been around for a few weeks, busy at preparing our departure to Koh Samui :-)

What about dental care on the island ? Would you recommend them ?

I must ongo some expensive dental work including implant, and I am wondering if it is wiser to do everything in Switzerland (ie very expensive but highly safe) or should I wait for Samui (10 times less expensive but how safe ??).

My question is - are you confident with dental clinics in Samui, or do you try and avoid them if you can ?

Thank you :-)

Several excellent dentists on Samui, safe as you'll find anywhere Two I would suggest seeing are Dr T opposite the 75 store, on the ring road coming into Maenam from Bophut

The other is Dr Saancha (sp) opposite the corner of Soi 5 Maenam, she's been suggested as being good by several people...

As for implants, that takes time... you may have left it too late, if planning on leaving soon...

I am sure others may have other suggestions as to who to see... we are well served here!

Thank you for your feedback :-)

We're leaving in 5 months time, that was my last chance to make it before leaving. But I just realised that it might be of worth to wait for Thailand to save some money .

Thank you again !

Just go ask for a quotation... you have lots of time then (I miss read your first line!) .... and whether they can do what you need...

Generally Dr T is there in the mornings... although you may need to make an appointment, nice guy and his English is good!

I would add Dr. Supaporn at Samui Bangkok Hospital, she is the best I've ever met and even pioneered her own method for tooth extraction which she calls "wedging" Rather than use pulling pliers, she gently taps the tooth down until it reaches the bone and then pops out and is painless.

Thailand is generally considered good for dental work, and favorable prices. Probably Bangkok is cheaper than Samui – I have a friend who over some years got serious amount of his smile refitted in Bangkok, his saving compared to European home-country paid for several holidays. He booked everything in advance via the clinic's homepage.

The suggestions by SamuiJimmy are good – I have used Dr Saancha in Maenam soi 5 for a number of years – otherwise you can find a good dental clinic at Bangkok Hospital in Chaweng Noi; I used that before, but not as close to me as the Maenam dentist. Bangkok Hospital is little more expensive, but depending of the work, they have specialists coming from Bangkok on regular basis, which can be a benefit in some cases. I have been very satisfied with the Bangkok Hospital service, and my girlfriend is using their expert for orthodontic treatment.

The dentists normally give a quote.

Have you looked into a zirconium implant, over titanium?

May be worth researching.

For extraction, cleaning the socket is prime. Getting the periodontal ligament out and cleaning the bone - avoid NICO or ischemic osteonecrosis - should be part of the plan.

Lots of sterile saline during extraction and load up on tons of vitamin C before and after.

Endotoxins and exotoxins are bad bois.

Thank you all for your advices :-)

I now consider seriously having this work done in Samui. Knowing that we leave in 5 months and we will stay in samui 1 year. Enough time in both cases !

I am in process of checking with my insurance if it is more interesting for me to do it in Switzerland and get reimbursed or do it in Samui and have a lower reimbursement.

Thank you again, it is great to get your views on this kind of questions :-)
