Factories warn of possible fire accidents this month

BANGKOK, 18 April 2016 (NNT) - The Department of Industrial Works (DIW) has warned operators of factories that are prone to fire accidents to conduct frequent inspections of their equipment and machinery.

DIW Director-General Pasu Loharjun said rising temperatures in Thailand could potentially lead to fire accidents in its factories. This year, April temperatures could reach 44 degrees Celsius.

Last year, the majority of fire-related accidents occurred at places involving the production of foam, paper, rubber, chemicals, food, textiles and paint. They were caused mostly by short circuits and flames from welding and burning activities.

Mr. Pasu has told factory owners to ensure fire extinguishers and electrical appliances are in good conditions. Signs indicating fire exit locations must also be visible to workers.

"The Department of Industrial Works (DIW) has warned operators of factories that are prone to fire accidents to conduct frequent inspections of their equipment and machinery."

Of course DIW won't require said factories to install safe equipment/machinery, fire and smoke alarms, and functional sprinkler systems.

Lives seem to be such cheap commodities in the LOS.

this doesn't happen to trees too, does it? the fire hazard thing? in the North, all we need to put the current situation way over the top is a large scale forest fire or two. it is way too easy for me to think of the scale of the duration of the current El Nino drought combined with higher temperatures.
