My visa expires a day before my flight, will this be a problem?

Featured Replies

I just got my visa for Thailand, which expires Dec. 11. However, my flight out of Thailand is Dec. 12. Will it be possible/difficult to get a 1 day extension? And if possible how much should I expect to pay approximately?

I doubt if you will overstay by one day.

When do you intend entering Thailand.

The Visa expiry date is not important.

Why have you got your visa so early?

All extensions cost 1,900 Baht.

I leave in a couple days. What do you mean the expiry date is not so important? And if I want to stay just one extra day so I can catch my flight I have to pay 1900 Baht??

Not sure how you got a visa with 8 months of validity. Visas are issued with 3, 6 and 12 months validity.

We need more info on what exactly you have now.

A visa's expiration date is only the last day you can use the visa for entry to the country. It is not the last day you can be in the country. After you enter the country you a get a permitted to stay date and that is when you must leave or get an extension.

My mistake, I meant my visa expires Oct. 11 meaning that if I enter the country on Oct. 11 then adding 60 days to that brings us to Dec. 10 or Dec. 11, but my flight is in BKK for Dec. 12.

  • 60 days would end on Dec 9th.
  • You need to change your flight, or near the end of your stay go to immigration and apply for another extension. That extension will be denied but they should issue you with an extra 7 days to leave the country (1,900 baht).

I suspect you will have an earlier permit to stay date than December 10th.

Just wait until you do your last entry and decide what you want to do to avoid an overstay or pay the overstay fine of 500 baht per day.

You can apply for a 30 day extension for a fee of 1900 baht of any of the 60 day entries you get from the visa.

I don't think he would be applying for another extension of his last 60 day entry. It would be his first 30 day extension of that entry.

My permit to stay might be less than 60 days? I thought I was guaranteed 60 days every time I enter with the 6 month multiple entry visa.

Am I pretty much guaranteed I will be granted the 30 day extension? (Assuming I haven't caused any problems in Thailand and don't look like a bad person)

When yoyu enter the country the 60 days starts on that day and the last day is also part of the 60 days.

No problem to get the 30 day extension. Immigration does them all the time.

Thanks alot, you've been a lot of help. I just have two last questions :D. Do I get the 30 day extension at the beginning of my last 60 day entry, or at the end, or it doesn't matter? And do I have to go to the Thai embassy to do it?

You can apply for the extension during the last couple of weeks of your 60 day entry at an immigration office.

Better to not wait until the last day in case of problems.

Always do a little early.
