Prawit says Wattana twisted his written promise

BANGKOK: -- Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan said today that Wattana Muangsook was summoned for "attitude adjustment" because he broke his written promise with the military junta to cooperate.

He said he had broken his words several times and therefore he was recalled by the military for extended attitude adjustment.

He said he could not tells exactly how long the defiant Pheu Thai party member would stay in custody for the attitude adjustment course, adding it depends on the concerned authorities and his cooperation.

He also dispelled concern by foreign rights group that the use of power by the military junta to detain a person for training courses could threaten rights of freedom of the people, assuring that the military would not abuse power.

Commenting on planned symbolic protest by the Resistance Citizens, Gen Prawit reiterated that protest is prohibited, and it is the matter of one person who broke his words.

Any promise or agreement signed under duress is invalid.

Prawit is a buffoon. The military have already abused their power. It started May 14 2014 with the coup and has only gotten worse since.

Forcing people into this "attitude adjustment" sessions or now "camps" is a blatant abuse of power, as there is no arrest warrant, no defense, no appeal and no legal basis for this incarceration.

There's a lot of twisted things going on these days and the junta are right there in pole position.

The attitude adjustment sessions in itself are a gross violation of human rights. No one should be made to sign a document to shut up.

This regime abuses power, why even try to deny it, the abuse is for all to see.

Well i think this government has broken a few promises lately, nepotism, transparency, free speech.

In the current Thai Universe it's OK.

Personally I'm tempted to feel sorry for the little guy. The junta is riding a tiger. They dare not get off and they are scared witless about what will happen if someone knocks them off.

Everything they do is designed solely to stay on the tiger, What is in the interests of TL as a whole is unimportant as the huge disparity between what they say and what they do makes clear.

As I perceive it, the major risks ahead are:

1. As time goes on, their actions may become less rational and more extreme.

2. As time goes on and the attitude of Thais continues to swing, the risk of a Suchinda clone becomes higher.

3. The junta may fool some Thais with their carefully crafted lies and half-truths, but the world is watching, and about 60% of Thai exports are to the countries that are doing the watching and remembering, and who are generally less easily deceived than the Thai people. Switch to be buddies with China? I wouldn't, China will eat these bozos alive, as the trains debacle illustrates very clearly. Europe and the USA are soon to become really important, and it could be the economic hardship which follows, that will knock them off the tiger.

"attitude adjustment" sounds like a comedy term from a really bad movie

ARMY....Go for it..... You are doing an excellent job where it is needed.... From memory, not one of Khun Taksin's political parties did anything to stop corruption...

The army comes in and cleans up the beaches, clearing corrupt Thais ( and politicians also ) from national park land ( which the Thai people own ) and doing their best in cleaning out corrupt officials...

Khun Taksin did absolutely NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING, on the above subjects... You knockers who seem to knock Khun Prayut must still believe the earth is flat...

You seem not to be able to see the benefits in the last 2 years....Better still, maybe you all should have an attitude adjustment...as guests of the army..

You forgot the sarcasm tag. As you cannot possibly be serious.

Oh dear, our very own Rip Van Winkle has woken up and thinks he is in Nurenberg in 1937.....

How can the public know if the promise was broken when the document allegedly signed by Wattana has not been made public? Could that document be made public?

This is the most transparent government ever. The PM has given his solemn word. It is so transparent, you can see right through it.

Regarding a document, no you cannot see it. Documents are not included in your Junta Governance Extended Warranty. You should have read all the terms and conditions.

By the way, the Thai Human Rights Commission has been conspicuously absent of late.

What a sad, sad individual you are.

I suppose there is some upside.

Assuming he doesn't go the way of other Political Prisoners in custody, Wattana having had the integrity to stand up to these buffoons should make a serious candidate for Prime Minister when his party are elected again (or even when a National Coalition Government is formed).

It's a whole new world in Thailand now.......the military rule

Wattana and promises just don't seem to go together.

Complete disrespect for the majority, but uses them as a handle to further his agenda.

Actually he might have a point. If all of the posters on TV who think the junta have got it wrong went together for attitude adjustment maybe we could make them see the error of their ways. Or their heads might explode. Either way it's a winner.

On a serious note tagalong is right up to a point. There were problems under the last PTP m government. The coup stopped the violence and they have had an impact on corruption. The problem is to take all this forward to an election they need to gain the support of enough of the population and preferably not just from one side. The perception that the crackdown on corruption has been biased and seems to suggest that the military are above suspicion won't achieve this and will just make matters worse. This case of suppression of opinion is just another demonstration of their lack of political ability. Getting rid of someone because of their mistakes and then doing the same yourself isn't going to work. At the moment it may not be as bad as before but I have a feeling it's drifting that way and without the checks and balances, albeit too weak that we had before it could get a lot worse.

I reckon I could do better and I don't even speak the language.

but... but... but... THAKSIN!

Came the entertaining reply.

Well, look on the bright side, there's at least one foreigner that 'doesn't understand' so perhaps the Thais were right all along...

Lets give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he just filled in that new form they are all talking about - the one with the social media stuff whistling.gif

Who's brainchild is this "Attitude adjustment" and what does it incur. To me it seems to be against all human rights as it is used against one individual who's personal opinions are opposing the thoughts of the junta.

I just find the concept of "djaime"complaining about people having "complete disrespect for the majority" ******* hilarious!

Elected government forced from office,, elections being prevented, coup, junta, appointed NLA.....and still you complain about "complete disrespect for the majority"!

Well fornicate with my aged footwear!

"The coup stopped the violence"

An oft repeated oxymoron.

One of the prime instigators of the 2013/2014 protests has his ugly mush at the start of this very thread.

Nice to see the art of open debate without resort to slanging thrives still.blink.png
