HOUSTON, TEXAS -- As many as five people have died in flash flooding in Houston, Texas.

Authorities have evacuated hundreds of people and power to homes and businesses has been cut.

The five deaths happened in Harris County with people trapped in vehicles.

Residents of Houston are being warned not to travel and the city says 70 residential subdivisions have reported flooding.

The area was hit by a massive storm, which released 45 cm rain flooding swathes of Houston including the Cypress Trails Equestrian Center a popular horse riding establishment, many of the animals had to be rescued.
