DPM asks public to study draft charter before going to the polls

BANGKOK, 25 April 2016 (NNT) – A deputy prime minister has urged members of the public to gain a thorough understanding of the draft constitution before going to the polls.

Deputy prime minister Admiral Narong Pipatanasai said the public should study the draft constitution thoroughly before passing judgment or making their final decisions on August 7th which is when the long-awaited public referendum will take place.

He also warned the public about possible attempts to distort information about the draft, saying people should either study the charter themselves or obtain information about the draft from reliable agencies.

He said the government will accept any result coming from the referendum while voicing his strong belief that the people of the nation are the ones who will benefit from the proposed new constitution.

Sure. Ask the public to sift through a hundred pages of legal, political and bureaucratic narrative. Excellent way to educate the population, especially the rural majority.

On the contrary. The most significant sections represent less than 10% of the text. Focus on those.

Where the hell is the Thai press in all this?

Intimidated and sidelined for the most part.

Paging courageous journalists...

We still have the last booklet. I suspect the next booklet will be as well read.

The good DPM is indirectly asking the people not to vote a no, as this will indicate a no confidence in the Junta, but as a yes vote to the Charter, however this will get twisted as a vote of confidence in the 99.90% popular Junta, Junta's need to be understood for what they stand for , themselves, and they have no-one else to blame but them selves for people thinking this way..........................................................coffee1.gif

The last constitution voted on by the Thai populous came embarrassingly close to being rejected in spite of massive push by that junta. It seems that the populous was not as engaged in the process as the generals had hoped.

The process this time will be interesting to observe. I will be watching from afar.

government will accept any result coming from the referendum

And if rejected the NCPO will proceed with Plan B - get the charter endorsed and put into law.

So much for the voice of the people.
