Trendy Building UK passport

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have processed a new passport as the pages are full. It is ready to pick up in Trendy Building soi 13.

I have 2 passports due to work and visas etc. I had to send both passports to Angola. 1 passport had my initial visa to Angola but too few pages to renew my visa. The second many pages so sent both via DHL.

British Passport office require the old PP to pick up the new one. It is ready for collection but dont have the old one to collect the new one.

I have all paperwork and full colour copies of both passports. Do you think this will be enough to pick up the new one?

They want the old one so that they can cut the corners off and stamp it cancelled before they give it back to you.

Trendy has said they will hold the new passport for 30 days. I suspect your old passport will be back by then. If not I think they would hold longer if you contacted them about it.

Slightly off-topic but the corner cutting of a foreign passport has always bothered me a bit. Aren't most paasport properties of the issuing governement and usually stipulate that it shouldn't be altered or mutilated?

Why wouldn't the 'cancelled' stamps on the visa be enough?

In Canada you have to send in the old passport as part of the renewal process. You get back the new passport and the old with small holes punched in it that read cancelled (or something similar).

I would assume it is up to each country to determine how the old passport is treated for cancellation, be it holes punched in it or the corners cut off. Not really sure why you would have an issue with way respective governments choose to denote a cancelled passport.

The Passport is cancelled once you get a new one, why would it bother you if they cut the corners off? Once it is cancelled you can't use it anyway

They cut the corners off so any Immigration Officer can easily see that it is a cancelled Passport without having to look through all the pages

Its not just ID that they want, it's your old passport for cancellation by corner clipping.

100% they won't give you the new passport without your first supplying the old one for physical cancellation.

This is the whole reason you have to go in to collect from trendy, rather than the new passport being couriered directly to your home as in other countries where one can legally send off the old passport with the new passport application.

I guess you could say you have lost it. The form you have to do is probably a Report a lost or stolen passport: form LS01 They might even want a police report for a lost passport.

Are you really in that urgent a need to get the passport?

Currently no PP....but I can wait. Probably for the best. Will go try and not lie. See if they will allow me my new one. Will report back what happened.

  • 2 weeks later...

I did manage to pick up the passport. I showed my receipt from the last visit and a copy of my passport. The young lad who served me did ask for the old pp. I told him it was at immigration. Sorted. Think I was just lucky really.

A graphic illustration of the complete pointlessness of having to return to With-It Tower in person to pick up your new passport, rather than having it sent to you direct from the UK, I think!

Agreed it is a pain. Fortunately I was in BKK. For people in the sticks the passport should be sent directly. Cutting the corner pages should not make a difference as its already cancelled.

Having said that...I got the pp back in 17 days and could track it all the way.

How were you able to track the passport all the way?

Last year, the DHL Tracking Code only got you as far as the application papers initial delivery to HMPO Liverpool.

Has some thing changed?

This is correct, when I applied for my new PP the form asked for my phone number, around 10 days after submitting my application I received a SMS from DHL. when I checked the tracking number the package was at Heathrow on it's way back to Thailand

Well that's an improvement.

Not so important any more as the HMPO service is now reasonably paced, but still no tracking available within HMPO.

Though it pains me to say this, I do agree that this is one small step in the right direction as regards the crazy UK passport renewal procedures.

In particular to be able to receive EMS (or its DHL equivalent) confirmation that your new passport has arrived safely at With-It Tower means, of course, that you are no longer at risk from the potential forgetfulness of the With-It Tower Mob to let you know when your new passport is ready for collection - which might eventually lead to it finding its way back to Liverpool through no fault of yours!

DHL send you an SMS when its being sent back. From there you track it on the DHL website...very good. This will allow people to make arange to make thier way to BKK. I would only travel to Trendy Building if you have the email printed saying it has arrived.

Really for me it was an easy process.
