ThaiLife
My wife is looking for a new phone , and the Samsung Galaxy A5 ( 2016 – A510FD ) seems to fit the bill , its a dual sim ( two sim slots ) and a separate external SD card slot and is not to heavy . Ive just looked at the phones specification and from what I can tell , SIM card 1 can use 2G/3G/4G but SIM card slot 2 can only use 2G . So taking into consideration that Thailand is phasing out 2G , this will mean that the phone is really only usable on SIM slot 1 . I am no mobile phone expert , so have I got this right or am I missing some thing Samsung Galaxy A5 ( 2016 ) A510FD TL
JaseTheBass
Yes. You're correct. I'm sure most users would use the second slot for extended memory. Does your wife really need 2 SIM cards? Sent from my R2D2 using my C3P0 manservant

Sent from my R2D2 using my C3P0 manservant Hi and thanks for the comment , the Samsung Galaxy A5 ( 2016 – A510FD ) actually has 2 SIM slots and a separate SD card slot . My wife has two 3G TrueMove SIM cards , one for business and one for family , the thing I can't understand is why would one SIM card slot be dedicated to only 2G , when many people are now using 3G/4G . I can only find one internet reference to the Samsung Galaxy A5 ( 2016 – A510FD ) Dual SIM phone , where it shows that SIM slot 2 is only for 2G , I'm now wondering if that reference is a mistake , and in fact SIM slot 2 may be actually for 2G and 3G. I would love to hear from any Samsung Galaxy A5 ( 2016 – A510FD ) owners , or any one who has come across more info on the phones SIM options. I live a long way from the nearest official Samsung dealership . TL
JaseTheBass
I had read elsewhere about the limit on the second SIM card capability. GSM Arena reviews are second to none. http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_a5_2016-review-1369.php

GSM Arena reviews are second to none. http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_a5_2016-review-1369.php Thanks for the link , looks very good Well Ive just spotted this .. Sim type - Nano Sim ( SIM1 : 4G & SIM 2 : 2G ) for the Samsung Galaxy A5 ( 2016 – A510FD ) on the AIS web site http://store.ais.co.th/en/samsung-galaxy-a5-2016.html So that seems to confirm that SIM 2 is in fact only for 2G Another Samsung Galaxy phone which '' seems '' to have the Dual SIM + separate SD card slot is the Samsung Galaxy J5 ( 2016 ) From this web site below it does seem that '' Both '' SIM's can use both 3G and 4G http://gadgets.ndtv.com/samsung-galaxy-j5-2016-3398 But I cannot see it for sale in Thailand TL
Lannig
I think that the Samsung A series are well-built and reliable phones at a very good price. In my opinion you have made a wise choice. As for 2G shutdown, well, for the time being only AIS is concerned in the foreseeable future if I'm not misled. The only other phone which I can see that comes with the above specification is the Samsung Galaxy J5 ( 2016 ) Ive done a quick Thailand search and can't find the Samsung Galaxy J5 ( 2016 ) on sale ? JaseTheBass
If looking for Samsung stuff I tend to start on samsung.com http://www.samsung.com/th/consumer/mobile-devices/smartphones/galaxy-j/SM-J500FZWDTHL Sent from my R2D2 using my C3P0 manservant
Lannig
Don't know about you, but the link to their e-store for the J5 doesn't work for me, which would make it difficult to buy it from there. The J5 is nowhere to be seen on their mobile phone section either: https://www.s-estore.com/category/mobile

JaseTheBass
To be fair, it's only just been released. Samsung are selling it via Lazada so I would assume their stores will have it very soon if not already.
