For example, saying "the van driver was drunk" will get you 5 years in jail. Hopefully, this will put an end to libelous comments one sees often on social media by the know all subscribers.

How about "the van driver may have been incapacitated"?

Alas, the libelous comments will continue. They will just wear a prettier face.

I'm surprised that a lawyer hasn't worked out that they could stalk Thai forums, spot libellous comments and then get an order for the poster's IP address.

For anyone in Thailand posting from home/their phone that would probably mean a negotiated payment to make the case go away (the point of the exercise) or lengthy Court cases.

Three men i know have already been taken into custody and questioned about their comments on social media. Rewards are pending for those who dobbed them in.
