BANGKOK — The ferris wheel at the recently opened Dinosaur Planet theme park was ordered yesterday to shut down for 15 days after a fire broke out on the ride.

The theme park, a tourist attraction anchoring a sprawling commercial development, was open normally Monday, two days after fire consumed one of the cabins on the five-story ferris wheel. Municipal authorities said they still have not concluded what caused the fire, which caused no injuries, but suspect it was caused by a short circuit.

Makes me feel so safe taking rides at Thai amusement parks. Just think what would have happened had anyone been in that pod when this happened.

There would not have been a short circuit if the brakes hadn't failed..........smile.png

Lightening may have caused this one! An act of Buddha.

Mankind has invented lightning arrestors since Benjamin Franklin flew kites...

What it doesn't say is that it was shut down 5 minutes before the fire, because of the rain on Saturday:,if not for that there would have been people in that car.

It would be rather awkward to have that thing going round and round with one nasty looking shell hanging off of it. I'm thinking there would not be much of a queue.

Unbelievable that they apparently restarted the ride without knowing what caused the problem. Good that someone stepped in and demanded an investigation before they continue.

A ride dependent upon electricity shorts out and catches fire during a rainstorm and you don't see the need for concern?

Apparently they shut the ride down when they knew rain was on its way (friend from work was there and said this was the case).

If this was the case it suggests the owners knew there were concerns.

If it's true that is, I wasn't there.

A ride exposed to the weather and probably the electrical wiring was not suitably installed with the correct IP rated boxed. Water gets in the box short circuit and fire. Safety is the main reason I would not ride on any of these attractions in Thailand. Things can go wrong anywhere but less chance of problems when the installations and construction are carried out to International stndards
