Social Development Ministry joins with OAG and police to reduce violence against women and children

BANGKOK, 2 May 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has joined hands with the Office of the Attorney General to step up efforts against domestic violence and violence against women and children after recent statistics indicated an uptick.

Minister of Social Development and Human Security Pol Gen Adul Saengsinghkaew has opened a training session on the use of the multidisciplinary mechanism to protect women and children from violence. The training aims to foster understanding on relevant laws and to have those concerned be able to apply such laws to effectively safeguard women and children from violence.

Multidisciplinary teams are being set up in the nation’s provinces and will include provincial attorneys, investigative officers, One Stop Crisis Center (OSCC) officers, local administrative officials, social workers and provincial Social Development and Human Security agents. Once their training concludes on May 4, they will be tasked with reducing the number of cases of violence against women and children.

OSCC recently reported a slight increase in complaints of violence against women and children from 2015 to the Royal Thai Police, Attorney General’s Office and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. It made known that most complaints were related to alcohol or narcotics and plans to use the data in formulating a plan to address the issue.

The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has joined hands with the Office of the Attorney General to step up efforts against domestic violence and violence against women and children after recent statistics indicated an uptick.

So without this uptick the SD ministry was perfectly satisfied with the level of domestic violence and violence against women and children?

And without this uptick the OAG had no reason to join hands with the SD ministry?

Perhaps these two agencies are more concerned about justifying budget increases for fiscal year 2017. They'll want more than an just uptick in their budgets.

The social development and human security minister obviously does not read the news.

Whilst there is, almost every evening on Thai TV domestic violence, kidnapping, rape, stabbing, shooting... And the general "normalising " of this type of behaviour they stand very little hope of having any impact on Thai behaviour.

This behaviour is endorsed as the "norm"

He's a start for them....how about removing all the violence on Thai soaps and educating the population that it's not acceptable to hit women! Then when someone breaks that rule punish them properly no matter who they are... And yes I know Thai women can be ruthless too and they need to deal with also... Actually how about teaching them true Buddist beliefs and then they would learn to treat animals better also...As a nation they have so so much to learn about how you treat people!
