Nearest border from BKK

Featured Replies

Hello

My mate has a week left on his 30 day extension he wants to do a border run to get another 30 days stamp before returning back to the uk, where is the nearest and easiest border to get 30 stamp, he lives in central Bangkok.

Thanks

To get another 30 days would he not have to arrive at an airport, do land borders only give 15 days

Correction the above is incorrect , 30 days is available at land borders

Probably easiest is to take a casino bus to the border at Aranyaprathet to Poi Pet (Cambodia). He can get a Cambodian visa on arrival for US$30 (ensure US currency) if he can avoid all the scams.

I thought with a uk passport he can still get 30 from a lander border ?

Another good alternative is a same day in/out by air to Kuala Lumpur.

You are correct. He gets 30 days at a land border.

Nearest border is at Phu Nam Ron , Kanchanaburi. Bit awkwards to get to though if you don't have your own wheels.

Misleading and inaccurate information.

Passport holders from G7 countries receive a 30 day visa exenpt entry at land borders.

He has a car so no problem, I heard that unless you have a visa Phi Nam Ron is not easy to get back in on a 30 day stamp ?

Bigger problem than transport is that you cannot do a border hop for a visa exempt entry there.

No way for 30 day stamp!

Only for visa holder (border run).

EDIT: just seen, post #5 by BritTim was faster about this:

he lives in central Bangkok.

The nearest border is Kuala Lumpur airport biggrin.png

An easy one day return trip by air from Don Mueang with AirAsia.

Due to the short term booking and all the holidays in Thailand not so cheap.

On Saturday it would be about 4200.

May 10 much cheaper, but too late I guess.

Not if he is from a G7 country

whistling.gif If you are eligable you can take a bus from Bangkok to the Cambodian border and do a day trip for a turn around there.

Will cost you about 2300 baht and is a day trip......leaving about 6 a.m. from Bangkok and returning same day about 6 p.m with a new visa.

16 passenger min-van , two bathroom or coffee stops on the way and 1 hour stay at the border for lunch and visa.process

long trip, but i've done it twice in last 3 years/.

.

look for their URL on net......www.thaivisarun.com

NOT aqssociated with this Thai visa forum but a similar name.

2300 Baht is the farang price. for entire12 hour trip....includes cambodian visa at the border.

Have empty pages in your passport for Cambodian visa.

All details on the URL.....contact them

New "VISA's" cannot be obtained at border points.

leaving about 6 a.m. from bangkok and returning same day about 6 p.m with a new visa.

No talk about new visa. Just a border run to get a 30 day visa exempt stamp.

(30 days assuming the friend is from the UK as he "returns" there)

That is correct. He can't get a visa exempt entry at Phu Nam Ron. The nearest border is Cambodia.

This is an option for those who want other Westerners to talk to on the way there and back. However, it is more comfortable (and cheaper and quicker) to do the run yourself using the casino bus.

I agree with this guy. Casino bus to Poipet. Multiple border-bound busses depart from the southern edge of Lumphini park starting early in the morning up until about 1 or 2pm (as far as I know). The pick-up spot is near the park entrance that is on Rama IV-- across from the HSBC building.

I have made this trip a few times. The casino bus costs 200 baht each way. For me, being on a big bus is way better than being crammed in a mini bus. The service I got leaving from Ekkamai bus station was way worse than the casino bus.

Multiple busses leave from the border market back to Bangkok on the Thai side near a back parking lot close to the border line.

G7 still gets 30 day exempt on arrival! Not 15! Chok dee!

i did not say a new visa......i am a U.s passport holder and eligable for a 30 day visa exempt entry also.

or if you happen to have a valiid current multi entry visa.....you can get a new entry on that visa.

As i said i have done it twice in the last 3 years.

This is what you said " Will cost you about 2300 baht and is a day trip......leaving about 6 a.m. from bangkok and returning same day about 6 p.m with a new visa.)

Totally wrong and misleading as new visa's cannot be obtained at border crossings.
