Hi,

I have a few years old (3-4 years) DVD home system 7.1.

Well who uses DVD's anymore I don't, I download all I need to watch.

Since I am a movie fan, I don't mind downloading 5.1 versions online, big, but I have time.

Can I somehow use the loudspeakers from that system and use them for my computer?

Currently the speakers all have special "Samsung" plugs, that go into the DVD player. Also very thin wires (2 wires +/- I guess).

Can I just cut the wires and make them computer plug sound card ready? I know I got all the inputs (G,R,B,B,Y or whatever colors they are on the computer)

I tried Google and Youtube, but did not really give me assurance it would work, before I start cutting the very thin wires and giving them new plugs/jacks.

For the experts, both my computer and the Home System have a Digital Audio, which I think could also be used, since they are only 1/1.5 m away from each other.

Here is the systems specs:

Here are my computer specs (Engels and Thai):

My 42" TV is hooked up to the computer through HDMI

Digital audio between the sound system and the PC is the way to go.

Does your PC have an optical audio output (the sound system has an optical input)? If so you just need to get the correct lead (it's an optical fibre actually).

My PC does not have optical out, but my TV does. So our arrangement is HDMI from PC to TV, then optical from the TV to the sound system. It's digital all the way so there's no loss of quality.

I use a Minix media box. It is android based. Just plug a USB portable hard disk containing your movies into the box and you are good to go. I have my Minix X8-H Plus connected to my Samsung surround DVD system with a toslink (optical) cable. I use an HDMI cable between the Minix box and the TV. Works great.

My only complaint is that DTS goes from one extreme to the other for sound intensity. Adjust volumn to be able to hear dialog during a quiet moment, and you will be blown out of the room the next when the action starts. Adjust volumn for action and you cannot hear dialog. No issues with AC3 though. It's just a DTS thing.
