PATTAYA: -- Staff members of The Division of Local Administration Office around Pattaya were tested positive for drugs in their system. Fourteen of them were found to have purple urine.

One admitted to stealing electrical wire cables and selling it to recycled shops.

At 3 pm, Wednesday 4th of May, Chonburi’s District Chief Officer, Mr. Chakorn Kanjanawatta ordered Assistance District Chief Officer, Mr. Praphan Prathumchumpoo to investigate the matter as he was notified that there were Officers in The Division of Public Works who were smuggling and using Ya Ba (Amphetamine) drugs.

The Division of Public Works office is located in Soi Tuangok, Chaipornwithi Rd. Pattaya.

Officer Praphan and his team exercised the “National Council for Peace and Order” (NCPO) power, to randomly check over 30 staff members. They found 14 men with purple urine samples and one of them admitted that he has been using drugs for a long time.

Drug use in Thailand and in places like Pattaya are rampant, owing to the fact that it's readily available

and cheap and Pattaya people are no different, and if you randomly urine test people on any street

in any city in Thailand you will find that many are using...... as for the stealing, this will no be Thailand

if workers will not steal from their employers.....

Ah yes, first in line (again) to state the blatantly obvious. Have some coffee before you do this 'stream of consciousness' nonsense.

While we're at it, since when has pilfering in the workplace been a uniquely Thai predilection?

No sweat; they will explain that they had been drinking tea made from the flowers of the Butterfly Pea.

Stealing eh? But why sell it to shops that have been recycled, is the local scrap merchant not a good payer?

"Officers in The Division of Public Works"

Sure goes along way toward explaining why the construction projects on Beach Road have been going on for years with no completion in sight.

Maybe the Army will get it sorted out when they arrive next month..... And maybe not!

Certainly another "don't hold your breath" moment. Based on his failure to deliver anything truly meaningful in Bangkok after all those grandiloquent speeches before he assumed the mantle of PM as a civilian, I foresee a quiet 'extraordinary general meeting' of the most influential Chonburi stakeholders where beyond some minor cosmetic changes and some token, showcase busts and reassignments, it will be business as usual. Talk about living the irresistible force paradox.
