International community has better understanding about draft charter, says CDC



BANGKOK, 9 May 2016 (NNT) – The Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) is confident that foreign countries have a better understanding towards the draft constitution and the overall situation in Thailand.

During a press conference, Mr Norachit Sinhaseni, CDC spokesperson, said he believes the international community has come to understand more and more what has been transpiring in Thailand, given the fact that foreign diplomats and representatives from international organizations have been well-informed of the draft constitution, the public referendum, and current political situation in the kingdom.

The referendum is scheduled for August 7th while the general elections will take place next year according to the roadmap.

He said the drafting body has been preparing for its journey nationwide and will be giving training to volunteers who will help the team explain the draft to the people. Training courses will be held on 18-19 May.

Is this "understanding" before or after the strong statement by the UN Human Rights guy? (which continues to be retweeted by them BTW).

So says the Junta as they have also said the international community supported the coup and loves and supports Prayuth. The Junta just loves speaking for and making comments on behalf of others because as prayuth also said they don't understand Thainess. Let's actually hear what the international community have to say.

With "International community" do they mean North Korea, Russia and China?

Mr Norachit said "Blah, blah, blah, blahty blah." After his statement he was confident the whole world now understood what was going on in Thailand.

It's about time serious International sanctions were applied to remove any doubt about how the world sees Thailand's "Government".

And how do they know this? The BS seriously has to stop from this so-called Government.

However, the ""better understanding "" is than yours .

They understand they contain no mandate to be constructed in the first place .

Therefore illegal as the government which is trying to ironically have them voted on has no right to even put them forward.

They have a clear understanding of the bullying used against the population into silence when they point out the article faults regards their heavily weighted unlawful slant towards the military retaining proxy power.

You are heading towards sanctions.

Do they!! Really! If they understand them then that's more than the Thai population does! I think this Thai draft charter is doomed to fail..then what happens ! Another draft charter perhaps drawn up by who though?

So we've in the last few days statements like, "The junta always respects human rights" and today it's "The International community has a better understanding of the draft charter". So what Devine wisdom (BS) will we get in the next day or two?

Most Thais politely refuse to talk about politics. They do as the junta asks. It would be sad if those diplomats who have the freedom to speak out fail to do so.

Well of course the foreign communities are better informed about the draft charter as they have been fed some information. What about people in Thailand, when are they going to be informed?

Exactly, it is just a PR campaign that only works if the junta is able to control the flow of information in the country.

Every Thai journalist in Thailand is being threatened by the PM and his cohorts to only report "his truth" otherwise attitude adjustment is around the corner. Toe the line perfectly and you get a prize in journalism from a police general.

Foreign journalist who not confirm the line get their visa renewal declined.

That leaves those pesky foreign journalist abroad, but luckily this government and previous governments were smart enough to keep the general population dumb enough so they cannot read English. The flow of information is Thai language is so much smaller and therefore easier to control.

And the few that can read English most likely get their information form Facebook. Maybe thats why the junta worked so hard to get access to private messages on Facebook and to get some Facebook pages removed if they don't like the content.

What the international community says in private will never be known , but the basic premises from the CDC smacks of delusional tendencies , firstly no Democratic country would support a Junta and that is a part and parcel of their democratic platform and I might add their charter, they may have an understanding about the draft and automatic appointments including the senior military and Senators , what they possibly will fail to understand is why can't the people vote for these as well............................

The fact your using military volunteers to "spread the word (draft) according to Prayuth" smacks of desperation and control, when you won't allow open debate of it's contents.

It's YOU, the Junta that doesn't have an understanding of what the Foreign/International Community thinks and believes.

I failed English lit but I know there has to be some kind of irony in these idiots messages.

What exposes the junta and coup groupies as naive incompetents not to be trusted is how their unsubstantiated claims that defy reality discredit the things they say about the red shirts and Thaksin.

We'll see if this understanding is demonstrated at the May 10^th forum by the Foreign Correspondence Club of Thailand on "Talking About Thailand's New Constitution."

The intent of the forum is to hear different opinions expressed by veteran political players about the draft charter should it pass the referendum. Among the invitees are Kasit Piromya for the Democrats, Pongthep Thepkanjana from Puea Thai, Anutin Charnvirakul from Bhum Jai Thai, Alongkorn Polabutr from the NRSA and Panitan Wattanayagorn as advisor to Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan.

But I suspect either heavy military presence at the forum to assure proper understanding or the NCPO will cancel the forum.

The new constitution has only been 'explained' to everyone and obviously from a seriously biased point of view. When can it be read both in Thai and English. Only then can truly unbiased opinions be formed.

Lots of wishful thinking about sanctions in threads these days.

I highly doubt there will be any sanctions even talked about any time soon unless the junta are seen to be openly spilling blood.

As long as they stick to disappearing people to abuse their citizens instead of doing it openly, nothing much will change. For something to happen it will take the Thai people to act.

So do all folks returning from an attitude adjustment.

As it ever occurred to you why other countries haven't applied sanctions, carry on developing business and trade, education and research links, and regularly send and accept representatives from government, business, trade, academia etc?

Drivel. You don't decide what's legal or not in Thailand, or anywhere else for that matter.

A sensible comment at last.

Whilst they may not agree, none are really imposing sanctions, or doing much about it. In fact most significant nations are continuing developing trade, cultural and academic relations, some more than others, but actively.

I doubt the international community has gone through the draft charter with a magnifying glass; or even asked really detailed questions. The Embassies will have done the usual reporting back home.

But, amazing as it may be to some TV posters Thailand isn't the focus of attention for the international community, nor is it high on their agenda given everything else going on in the world. More interest in Leicester City winning the EPL, Trump and Clinton slagging one another off, Putin sabre rattling, the NK nutters having a mad hatters tea party, and now the loony Turnbull calling an election in the land of make believe. Probably more worried about a nut job who wants to use death squads and extra judicial executions as policy becoming the Philippine president than some referendum in Thailand.
