Gen Prawit disagrees with Seri Suwanpanond’s proposed reconciliation bill

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan has voiced his objection to a proposed bill aims to help restore reconciliation by holding off punishments against political offenders of the two opposing camps.

He said that, personally, he did not agree with the proposed bill initiated by Mr Seri Suwanpanond, chairman of the political reform panel of the National Reform Steering Assembly, claiming that the proposed legislation would only lead to more conflicts and confusion.

The deputy prime minister maintained that political situation has become stable and it is much better for political roadmap to proceed uninterrupted. He insisted that the proposed bill was the initiative of the NRSA’s political reform panel and he was not involved whatsoever with it.

General Akanit Moensawat, a member of the National Legislative Assembly, likened Mr Seri’s proposal to “paddling a boat round and round in a bathtub” which will only result to more conflicts.

Mrs Payao Akhard, mother of a volunteer nurse, Ms Kamonkate, who was shot dead during the anti-government protest in 2010, said the proposed bill was just a trial balloon to test the moods of the people which will never materialize.

If the government or the NRSA really wants to grant sweeping amnesty to all offenders involved in political conflicts, she suggested that they take into consideration the proposal of Mr Anek Laothammathat, former chair of the reform and reconciliation panel of the now defunct National Reform Council.

Hmm, democracy, stability and reconciliation where some of the key points the NCPO would focus on. Now democracy is not what they will bring if the draft constitution is taken as the framework.

Stability they did bring by limiting freedom of speech, which of course means the stability is nothing more than a placebo.

As to reconciliation, nothing and I mean absolutely nothing has been done or achieved on this front, on the contrary.

Amnesties are reserved for coup makers.

I agree.

The Junta has created enough conflicts and confusion already. Can you imagine unadulterated political activism within an environment of a miltary-disciplined government? Complete chaos!

Oh dear I am agreeing with Prawit - is this the end of the world sad.png

Congratulations must go to the Military Junta for finally getting National television coverage in Australia. The profound incident of the young female student who was detained and stripped searched in a public area and then to add to the degradation by putting her in gynaecological stirrups to do a cavity search. This young lady was at a silent well behaved protest on violation of human rights in Thailand at the university. Unfortunately the arresting officers and the interrogators did not know this young lady was educated for sometime in Australia. This will definitely do a lot for Australian tourism to Thailand and advance the junta's international support.

The good general just proves that they serve elitist Thailand, and only pay lip service to universal suffrage and freedom of speech.

Aussie polies and the left media will spout off. But that's hypocrisy and hot air, as per most polies and media agencies around the world these days.
