NRSA approves report on local government system

BANGKOK, 11 May 2016 (NNT) - The National Reform Steering Assembly has approved a report on the overhaul of the country’s local government system.

At its sitting on Tuesday, the NRSA reviewed a report from the committee on the reform of the local government system, which included a report on the administration of personnel at local government offices, and a draft amendment of the Local Personnel Administration Act.

Chairwoman of the committee Ninnart Chalitanon told the sitting that the committee has found that the personnel administration of Thailand’s local government system has been causing numerous problems, including inefficiency, a lack of unity and corruption.

Therefore, the committee has prepared a report, in which, it has suggested the annulment of the existing law governing personnel administration at all local government offices and the enactment of a new law, which is more in line with current circumstances at all offices.

After having heard the details of the report and deliberating on all issues, the NRSA has voted 163 to none, with four abstentions, to approve the report.
