PHUKET: Motorists are urged to beware heavy downpours that may cause minor flash flooding in isolated areas throughout Phuket as heavy rain clouds move across the island this weekend.

Traffic backed up for hours on Thepkassattri Rd northbound in Thalang from 6am today (May 14) after heavy rains there caused minor flooding near the Thai Watsadu centre.

Residents in the Moo Baan Usookjaroen area of Thepkrasattri subdistrict reported floodwaters of up to 50 centimetres after an hour of incessant rain. Thalang Police officers were dispatched to the area to help direct traffic.

Some motorbikes were left stranded in the middle of the road while other vehicles were able to move along the road very slowly.
