PM told schools to be ready for new term

BANGKOK, 16 May 2016 (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has told schools across the country to ensure their classrooms and facilities are in good condition for the new school term.

Government Spokesperson Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said that Gen Prayut wanted schools to be ready to welcome students back at the start of the new school year today.

Educators have also been told to prevent the spread of diseases caused by mosquitoes, as well as gambling, bullying and accidents.

Meanwhile, The Ministry of Education will begin to implement new school hours and promote critical thinking among students. The Office of the Government Pawnshop will also help parents who are struggling financially to keep their children in school by allowing them to pawn their valuables under lenient conditions.

Be Prepared.

Be ready for the new term which starts today. Nothing like forward planning and preparation.

And this is nothing like forward planning etc.

I am however pleased the the PM advised them to do this, hell they could have forgotten all about it otherwise.

Keep fighting Uncle Too.

The last paragraph is satire, or?

We are living in Satire Country!

The last paragraph is satire, or?

That particular art form is not appreciated here. I think the next thing they'll introduce is government buying your kidneys for inflated price so you can send kids to school.

My daughter's school grounds were cleaned and repaired in preparation for the new term by the school food vendors (who already have to pay for their pitches), for nothing. They were told to either do it free of charge or piss off elsewhere.

And they say slave labour is being tackled...

A country run by children and the children are no too bright!

Mobile phones, tablet and Ipad computers, digital cameras, notebooks, jewelery, even cars and motorcycles can be pawned in Thailand.

But stop!

This ain't just happening in Los.

People pawn similar stuff in the western world to pay school tuition fees.

The poor are everywhere!

Not just Los.

"PM told schools to be ready for new term"

Judging by today, word didn't get out!

But but the teachers are not ready to turn up for some schools in the South.

The National News Bureau of Thailand (the govt's mouthpiece) could make a stinky govt fart smell like roses in a press release.

Christopher Hitchens used term to describe Bloomberg, I recall: "micromeglomaniac". Seems to apply here.

There's an Office of the Government Pawnshop?

Maybe Prayut should use that agency to nationalize all private pawnshops (under Article 44 if necessary), capitalize them with government funding and use them to drive loan sharks out of business.

Just couldn't figure out which is more comedy. The fact that a PM feels he has to make such statement, or that schools have to be be reminded there is another term after the holidays.

.... told schools across the country to ensure their classrooms and facilities are in good condition for the new school term.

Because the day they go back to school is the best time for forward planning on this

Educators have also been told to prevent the spread of diseases caused by mosquitoes, as well as gambling, bullying and accidents.

Because these are achievable goals for teachers and are not the jobs of the Health ministry and the Law enforcement authorities?

new school hours and promote critical thinking among students.

Because the Government correctly deduced that less education = more critical thinking.

The Office of the Government Pawnshop will also help parents who are struggling financially to keep their children in school by allowing them to pawn their valuables under lenient conditions.

Because "A free basic education of twelve years is (was) guaranteed by the constitution, and a minimum of nine years' school attendance is mandatory. However, in 2009 the Ministry of Education extended free education to fifteen years.

This idiotic pronouncement is wrong on every level

Thanks for the reminder, it is appreciated. They could easily have forgotten about it, like they forget the kids in the school vans.

Just couldn't figure out which is more comedy. The fact that a PM feels he has to make such statement, or that schools have to be be reminded there is another term after the holidays.

It seems to me the PM(?) has to make at least three or four observations each day, most of which are touched on via this forum.

In any other country it may well be referred to as a 'cult of personality" or...."I've got my finger on the pulse of every issue in the country". Take your pick.

"Today, let's try critical thinking."

"Schools should be able to be schools by today... already."

Headless chickens have more brains.

What's the difference between a headless chicken and a Thai pooyai?

The chicken uses more energy.

"Promote critical thinking"

Am I the only one who's burst into laughter reading this?

"Promote critical thinking"

Am I the only one who's burst into laughter reading this?

Yeah, probably. the rest of us are weeping or banging our heads on the computer keyboard in frustration

"Meanwhile, The Ministry of Education will begin to implement new school hours and promote critical thinking"

Critical thinking is thought that can be critical of anything and everyone to resolve problems presented to the thinker

How can this be schooled if from birth Thais are shown to tow the line and not rock the boat.

Under the present social system it will never happen

Indeed, under PM Abhisit the 'free basic education' was extended to fifteen years.

Hardly five days ago we had

"Education Minister Gen Dapong Ratanasuwan explained that the organic law would legitimize the 15-year free education policy and ensure that subsequent governments would continue with the project."
