BANGKOK: -- Relatives of a disabled man who was beaten and stabbed to death by a group of youths in Lat Phrao area in broad daylight and amid several onlookers last month lodged a petition with the national police chief today (Monday) demanding that police slap murder charges against the six perpetrators.

Accompanied by their lawyer, the family of the victim, Mr Somkiat Srichan, told reporters at the National Police Office that they wanted the Chokechai police who are in charge of handling the case to lodge murder charges against the six youths instead of manslaughter charges.

The lawyer, Mr Anantachai Chaidet, said he had presented to the police video clippings taken from surveillance cameras at the crime scene at the time the victim was ganged up by the youths.

Personally, he said the perpetrators should be charged with murder but Chokechai police instead charged them with manslaughter.

The case sparked off a lot of comments in the social media from netizens, including businessman Vikrom Kromdit, who suggested that the perpetrators should be executed.

So it's down to manslaughter already?

...is the word 'justice' even in their vocabulary....

...doesn't seem to be in their psyche or mentality....

...makes me wonder about what I have heard of 'people' with souls....and without souls....

...scary...

Depends how far up the food chain the Police are, if they are normal traffic cops, their kids will get busted the same as everyone else, but very high ranking officers are in a totally different world, they are almost untouchable, unless of course the word comes from up above, then their kids will get busted too.

Depends if someone from high sees this as an opportunity to show that there is no favor shown in the Thai judicial system, although we all know that would be a false claim, if someone can score points, an order could be given leaving the police no option but to prosecute, my feelings are it will be settled monetarily out of court with the victims family who will then decide to drop charges, and the boys will become monks for 90 days.

Yes, very likely, and I fear that the comments of the relatives to the press are only meant to 'drive up' the price, or monetary compensation as you stated.

They don't give a donkey's ass about justice, sadly enough.

Yes you are quite right in your quote, But unfortunately there are too many morons in Thailand that has nothing else to do as to bring out their uneducated stupidity in unrelated issues on Thaivisa. What ashame of this.

The key to justice is farang .

The farang come here to spend money .

The farang worry about safety and even Thais killing a disabled man.

If farang not see punishments the farang tells many on twitter how bad the Thai authority is.

How dangerous the place is.

Keep the protests up and get farang to keep it in the media .

Some of us care about the poor and oppressed .

And believe it or not we hope you get some justice.

The most I can see happening in this case is 7 years sentenced reduced to one for good behaviour .

The most likely is self defence and family sent to AA ( after being fined 100,000)

There is next to no chance police sons will face justice and the crime will be reduced to nothing

Even the victim will be most likely deemed the attacker and family punished.

The world needs to witness the process here to understand this is not a suitable destination

Ridiculous. I actually feel that the cops are trying to shield the killers as much as possible by watering down the charges and delaying the whole thing so the lightest possible punishments can be given down the line when most people have forgotten and a new scandal du jour is upon the population.

If the B2 in koh tao got the death sentence for simply murder while drunk in a joint enterprise, then these guys and girls should get the same punishment. The self defence argument doesn't stack up when its 6 on 1 and the guy is very clearly disabled and actually fleeing in the video.

Only a confession would commute the sentence, surely if they don't confess they get the maximum sentence, if not its the watered down sentence which should be 15 years to life. Either way they should be all over. Lets hope a harsh judge gets his / her teeth into this case

No harsh judges here. there are rich judges and poor judges. The rich ones are the ones that know which way the decision on guilt and sentencing needs to go.

In this case , since it's all over social media now we can actually hope for some kind of justice.

All over social media in recent times: Red Bull killer, Teenage Girl Ayudaha killer, Angry spoilt bus stop killer, Mercedes Monk killer....see any justice in those? (Apparently Angry spoilt killer got ''sentenced'' to jail...whether he's in there is another question entirely) Edited by SABloke

The only justice will be a small payment of around 100,000 baht providing they shut up.

If the family push the case, then they will end up with nothing. Going to court will result in them losing as the seven defendants will simply claim that the victim attacked them, so they were defending themselves. Judges side with the police and like money.

Why would an unarmed disabled man attack seven hooligans armed with knives and machettes?

Not the right question.

Why would said armed hooligans even consider that this is a viable defense to offer?
