NLA's 1st Vice President sets hopes on new generation of democratic leaders

BANGKOK, 17 May 2016 (NNT) – A vice president of the National Legislative Assembly hopes the new generation of democratic leaders will be more disciplined and have a better understanding of Thailand’s administrative system.

NLA’s First Vice President Surachai Liengboonlertchai said on Monday that the current democratic leadership development project for the country's youth, the second of its kind in the present fiscal year, has been introduced to help young students understand more about democracy through the Scout system.

The project, organized with the cooperation of the Secretariat of the House of the Senate acting as the Secretariat of the NLA, the National Scouts Organization of Thailand, the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and the Office of Basic Education Commission, took place in Phitsanulok Province.

Mr. Surachai said that participating students would have the opportunity to learn about discipline and the motto of the Scouts while getting to know more about the role of the constitutional monarchy.

In addition, the teachers of many students have also been invited to join the project as they can play an important role in disseminating information to young people who have not been able to take part in the project.

Pleased they will be learning the motto "Better to Die than to Lie".

I am sure that all the so called "educators" will have life long experience of following this motto.

"A vice president of the National Legislative Assembly hopes the new generation of democratic leaders will be more disciplined and have a better understanding of Thailand’s administrative system."

So the problem is that leaders aren't disciplined enough and that they don't understand the administrative system?? Well, the first part is not easy to do anything about since it's an integral part of thainess, but the second one should be easy enough to rectify.

More drivel from the present leadership....coffee1.gif

If the draft charter gets the nod, it will need discipline politicians like soldiers. Not surprise the junta NLA prefer discipline rather than honesty (develop character & credibility), compassion (humane quality of understanding suffering), integrity (adhering to moral & ethical practices) and confidence in belief things are done eight and effective. Traits of good politicians everywhere in the world.

help young students understand more about democracy through the Scout system.

I can see why the Scout movement would appeal to the Thai elite's notions of "democracy". Dealt with well in the extract below. B-P is Lord Baden-Powell

Linked with this, and representing a third aspect of B-P’s philosophy, is the strong authoritarian attitude that runs through his writings. “A Scout obeys orders without question”, is one of the Scout laws. B-P was generally sceptical of individual self-expression or any freedom of thought. For him the State always took priority over the individual. It is hardly surprising, then, that the Scout movement is a very undemocratic institution; its council, constituted by Royal Charter, has autocratic control, and there are no procedures or electoral system through which the rank and file can channel their views. At the troop level, too, the mode of organisation, as B-P intended, is basically authoritarian, the scoutmaster being a kind of benevolent dictator ruling through his patrol leaders. A stress on hierarchy is naturally associated with the cultivation of the military virtues, and by discipline B-P meant “patient obedience to authority”.
