I have been doing the Non O Marriage extension for many years now and am thinking of switching to the Retirement option. To switch over:

* Can anyone confirm that you need B800k in the bank? (I have no pension)

* For the first retirement extension, does it have to be 2 or 3 months in your account before application?

* Is there another form to fill out claiming that I wish to switch from Marriage to Retirement?

* Does my wife have to come with me the first time to confirm that I want to switch?

* Can the retirement extension be done in a single day (ie no 30 days consideration)?

Any other info or tales would be reatly received.

Thanks a lot to all.

You will need 800k baht in the bank for 3 months. In your case it will not be the first extension which would be 60 days if was. First extension is when you have a 90 day entry from a non-o visa.

No form to complete.

They may want your wife with you to confirm it is acceptable to her.

At most offices you get the extension done on the same day you apply.

.............In your case it will not be the first extension.............

Thanks Joe, but it will be my very first RETIREMENT extension.

As I wrote immigration only considers the first extension to be one to extend a 90 day non-o visa entry. It is reduced to 60 days to allow a person to deposit the money after entering the country on a visa and still be able to apply for the extension.

Was any reason given? IO's are usually happy to facilitate an extension based on retirement as it is administratively easier.

Reason given was 'the rules had changed' (the same officer had asked me to do retirement before)

No 'rules' have changed.

Are you able to say which office this was?

Chiang Saen - I called the hotline , they just said 'whatever the officer told you ' no help at all

That explains it. Lots of bad reports about that office.
