Drought crisis persists in many areas

KAMPHAENGPHET, 18 May 2016 (NNT) – The continuing drought crisis in many areas has necessitated state agencies employ the civil-state approach to offer relief.

In Kamphaengphet province, farmers in Muang district have lamented that the water sources they use to feed their buffalos have dried up and caused them to have to purchase drinking water for the livestock.

In Uthai Thani province, the army has had to join with local administrative offices and the Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) to aid villagers suffering the water shortage under the “Civil-State Against Drought” initiative. Together the three bodies have passed out survival kits to 50 homeless people and passed out over 5,000 bottles of drinking water.

Meanwhile in the southern province of Yala, cucumber farmers have switched to new types of water hoses to help maximize the usage of their dwindling water supplies.

I have Thai relatives in Kamphaengphet, and friends living in other northern and

north eastern parts of Thailand. They have all told me how serious this drought is,

and the damage caused by the recent storms in Thailand. This is a hard year for

a lot of people living in Thailand. I hope the rains fall where they are needed

and the storms are not too violent, as the damage can be very severe as well.

The houses in many parts of Thailand are not built to with-stand strong winds

and severe storms. I will enclose 2 pictures, an older house in Canada and an older house in Thailand, which one would you rather be in during a bad storm? I hope that my friends in Roi Et and Nong Khai are doing well

and have survived the storms for far.
