PHUKET: -- The body of a man wearing only underpants washed up on Karon Beach last night.

A foreign tourist was shocked to discover the body while walking along the beach at 7:30pm and contacted the police.

The deceased was aged 35-40 and was about 165-170cm tall. He has a bald head and appears, by the dark color of his skin, to be a Thai national, Karon Police captain Weerayuth Thansirisukhaworakul told the Gazette.

PHUKET: -- Police are trying to identify the body of a man believed to be a Thai fisherman found washed ashore at Karon Beach last night (May18).

Police were notified of the discovery at 7:30pm. The body was spotted in the surf by a tourist strolling along the sand, near the Naga statue, about halfway along the beach.

“The victim had dark skin, was about 165-170cm tall and about 35-40 years of age. He was dressed only in ‘Adder’ brand black underwear,” said Capt Weerayuth Sirisukhaworakul of the Karon Police.

“There is a tattoo in Thai on the right wrist saying, “Arai ko yom Aj phen thur (would do anything, maybe it is you). He had another tattoo on his right shoulder.

“Judging from a nylon rope tied at his waist, we think he was a fisherman,” Capt Weerayuth added.

The good news is that lately with all the bodies floating around in Pattaya or Phuket , it doesn't seem there are sharks around , so good news for swimmers and divers....and people that get dumped in the sea bacause the boat sank.

And I get excited when I find a message in a bottle washed up on the beach.

There's two classifications of bodies who tend to wash up on beaches here.

Those who embarked, or were washed from, the shores of Phuket in the mistaken belief they could swim;

and,

those who usually remain unidentified and unreported as missing, who appear to come from fishing boats.

The latter tend to put lie to the claims made by authorities that slavery and murder of these slaves has been overcome following international pressure.

there would have been a better chance to identify him if he did NOT have tattoos as it seems to me that there are only a handful of them left on this planet.

Referring particularly to your comments about enslaved fishermen. Here is a story that appeared in the Australian news yesterday. Myanmar fisherman enslaved on Thai fishing boat for five years for not paying a 2000 baht beer tab and room bill.
