Chicken rice seller gets two months detention for cruelly beating and killing dog

BANGKOK: -- A chicken rice stall owner was yesterday sentenced by the Northern Bangkok Municipal Court after he was found guilty of cruelly beating and stabbing a dog to death last month.

The incident went viral on the social world when a video clip was posted on the Internet showing the man madly beating the dog on a Soi in Ramkhamhaeng, and later stabbed it to death with a knife.

In a closed-circuit TV camera that captured the incident on April 14, Anon was seen continuously beating ‘Chao Khao’, a dog that was chained in front of an apartment building at Ramkhamhaeng Soi 60/2 with a metal pipe. He then used a knife to stab the unfortunate animal many times killing it.

Based on the incriminate evidence and his confession, the court ruled that Anon was guilty of violating the 2014 Animal Cruelty Act.

He was first sentenced four months imprisonment.

But as Anon unconditionally admitted to his crime, his sentence was commuted to two months detention instead as the court deemed that Anon had acted in rage after finding out that the dog had bitten his daughter.

He was also granted temporary release after his family paid 18,000 baht to take him home so that he can prepare for his sentence.

Anon’s wife when interviewed by reporters related that the family had to endure a great deal of criticism from the public over the incident.

She revealed that due to the pressure they have had to move their stall upcountry. She appealed for the public’s compassion and understanding claiming that the dog that was killed was ferocious and fierce.

However she admitted that what her husband did was inexcusable and the family has willingly accepted the court’s decision and will not be appealing the verdict.

“My husband has received punishment for his act and all we ask for now is for us to be allowed to make a living in peace. He has already admitted to what he had done but what has hit us hardest is the response from the public. It’s unbearable.”

But in the meantime, the chairman and members of the Soi Dogs Foundation who were also present at the court room said that they were disappointed with the sentence reasoning that it was light.

They stated that the Act explicitly specifies that the sentence for such an act was two years imprisonment, and 40,000 baht fine.

Furthermore they cited other examples in foreign cases where the sentence was much more severe.

Way too light of sentence...

Can't he just go to a temple for a few weeks, same like other poeple in this country?

Way too light of sentence...

Temporary release on Bt18,000 may be an indication...

Not condoning the mans actions or the verdict... but the connected Thais literally get away with murder without ever seeing the inside of a cell, and this guy gets 2 months for killing a dog ..... Thainess if you have money/connections nuff said...whistling.gif

Good job he did not kill 9 in a van or he might have got community service, ludicrously harsh sentence, should have been given a medal

thats not thainess, thats thai budhism.

Watch out...Dogs have become super beings and will take over Thailand..They are put above the dominate humane race..

Curious as to what his beef was with the dog . It looks a bit small to be vicious.

No he cannot...he killed a dog, not 2 graduate students...

caused by pressures of moving? Come on this has to be a joke. The guy is just a sadist with no feelings for life. Lock him up for at least 2 years (that is a lot more than you get for killing people in your car)

Did you read the story, or just the headline? 'the court deemed that Anon had acted in rage after finding out that the dog had bitten his daughter.'

An honest mistake the chicken seller just miss toke the dog for a chicken and threw him in the stew pot.

Not defending the man...for protecting his little girl...but had he not taken action against the dog...what would the police and government have done to the dog?

Should pack the imbecile off to North Korea, the Fat Little Bully Boy up there has some Starving Dogs who haven't eaten since he fed his Uncle to them.

This chap would make a nice snack for them.
