Vocational schools ordered to bring student brawls under control

BANGKOK, 20 May 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Education has instructed all vocational schools to adopt concrete measures to end student brawls while threatening to shut down any institute that fails to do so.

Education Minister Gen Dapong Ratanasuwan convened a meeting with administrators of both public and private vocational schools within Bangkok and its vicinity in a bid to hear their approaches to preventing student violence. The minister called on the schools to arrange an attitude adjustment camp for students who are often involved in fights and conduct follow-up assessments.

In the meantime, the schools were also assigned to coordinate with security units in monitoring the movement of alumni who have records of violence in order to make sure they do not attempt to instill the same behavior in current students. Measures against gambling among students are also to be adopted by the schools.

If any vocational schools are found to be incapable of handling the problem of student violence, Gen Dapong said they might have to be closed down. As for the custom of initiating new students, he admitted there are no rules that prevent it from being practiced. However, he warned that action will be taken against the school’s executives if any violence occurs during the process.

Why didn't someone think of this years ago? Just order the vocational colleges to stop the brawls. And if they fail to do so just shut them down. Next please.

Is it that time of year again already -_-

They are the products of their own society.

Don't blame them alone,

My last teaching job was at a vocational school and due to its location there were no other schools around so the students couldn't brawl even if they wanted to.

What intrigues me is that when this subject comes up other posters write about teaching staff who encourage the students to prove their school is the ' best ' so if this is true then apart from closing schools these teachers etc should be identified and prevented from ever holding a teaching post again plus of course criminal charges if incitement can be proved.

Do tell. How will they stop it? gigglem.gif

Another buck being passed - YOU deal with it. They need to identify the root problems. "Attitude Adjustment camps", yeah great direction this country is headed. They are already almost fetishistically obsessed with uniforms, maybe they can have the students denounce their parents next.

What about making the courts give proper sentences for this ,start at 1 year minimum to life for murder or death penalty ,no bs 500 baht don't do again please or say your sorry and forget it

Sweet, another unachievable, unenforceable, uneducated proclamation. The propaganda machine of the returning happiness brigade just keeps rolling along.

Every year the MOE bangs on about closing down Voc Schools if brawls occur.... not one Voc school has been shut down....every year brawls occur and will continue....every year the MOE will bang on about closing Voc schools....ad infinitum.......

An attitude adjustment camp for regular brawlers? I hope they get their segregation right.

What they need are boat races and rugby matches like they have in civilised societies thumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif

victory monument 'swinging arms' is about to reopen.

Yeah, same old Mantra. No, the middle classes have rugby matches and boat races, the working classes have good old fashioned violence, Clockwork Orange style. Boys will be boys, hopefully they'll eventually grow up and become men, but this recent episode with the professors makes me sort of doubtful.

Any suggestions the police (snort!) might have some role in enforcing laws (double snort)?

Easy, anyone caught fighting, kick em out the school and put them in the army for 2 years...

I know that for over 40 years here when students enroll in a vocational school they are EXPECTED to take part in fights, shootings and beating up students of other vocational schools..Only by jailing these students or closing the schools will this be stopped.

I have a uniquely American solution: give them all handguns.

I am told this is a sure fire way to curb violence.
